Jolla Phone does not support 5G for several providers in several countries

I’ve updated the bug report: I’ve now tested the phone with Odido SIM: same problem. In the center of a major Dutch city where 5G works just fine on other phones.

The Jolla 2026 does not appear to have proper 5G support at all in the Netherlands. This is a big problem for Jolla.

Maybe raise the topic in next community meeting?

I don’t know what that is, but I’m not letting my 14-day cooling off period expire and have decided to return my phone.

Does the 5G icon turn on while you run a large download in the browser? In my experience, 5G turns on when there is substantial internet activity. Otherwise the phone stays on 4G.

That is your right. Personally I believe this is software bug as the SoC supports 5g (or operator problem), which I’m sure will be handled one day.

But for future info, Jolla organises biweekly community meetings, where community members can present questions and have open conversation about matter with Jolla employees, next one would have been 20.8. Community meeting on August 20, 2026

For the record, the 14-day period allows you to return a product for any reason, even for no reason whatsoever, as long as it’s like new - it’s meant to allow customers to change their mind even if what you got is exactly what you paid for. It’s separate from a product not working as advertised, which just falls under the two-year warranty.

I do get 5G with o2 in Germany (and in Den nmark with roaming, don’t know what provider)

From my side, I can get 5G in Slovakia (Telekom operator).

No, it never turns on.

Kerfuffle,
I just copied precisely what was mentioned on my phone, no more no less.
Today I had 5G directly after rebooting the phone but it switched soon after that to 4G.

5G works fine - I guess. But then again I never really felt the difference between 5, 4, or 3G.

Same here with Digi Romania, I have automatically selected network and only 4G and LTE is used. 5G was never shown since beginning.

We probably need a wiki thread for 5G like the VoLTE one, will be a pain to search for it as you can’t search for 2 letter word on this forum, but still collecting user experiences will be helpful, my current network also never goes to 5G sadly

I did not see 5G for the first week.
My company phone next to JP 5G.
The came ..16 update and started to see 5G just after boot, but then 4G.
Then driving from ciry to other bad 4G shows 5G .Started monitoring more closely.
I get 5G if 4G is very weak and/ or I do something data intensive via mobile.
My hunch is that there is scaling issues with mobile stengts and also 4G is preferred by initial settings at sw. for some reason.
Network Telia. Could also be some steering from network side? (5G SA/ NSA)???

Also o2-Germany-user here.
On countryside I got no 5G-signal, too. But in Berlin I have 5G with J2.

Can you confirm the status of VoLTE? We got information today

that MEO does not support VoLTE on the J2. If you can provide the information about Digi or NOS it would be great.

Ok, today i drove a bit and it turns out the Jolla Phone can indeed connect to 5G on o2. Just not in the same spot an iPhone or Samsung can.

Which more or less proves @attah

or even Apple? ( )

Definitely Apple too. Big operators just lighting up an indicator is big business.

I can report the same problem for Wingo Mobile on the Swisscom Network based in Switzerland. There’s only 4G connectivity.
