So @Jolla, should the remaining customers from batch #1 still expect deliveries of faulty devices?
Personally, returning a defective unit isn’t simple since I’m outside the EU and shipping it to a relative there.
It might be better to halt shipments now and wait until the revised devices (ideally with the updated I3C boards) are ready. That would save a ton of hassle for both customers and Jolla.
That is true, but coming from android i havent had issues and thus far i haven’t had any problems with the new J2.
We’ll see, maybe impending doom is near
I actually prefer a some what low-ish rating for ingress protection -like IP44 for example.
Extremely airtight things are a bit frightening to me, because water vapor might anyway find way in somehow - but if it finds way into an airtight place it won’t come out anymore.
Did the same. Now there’s definitely a gap between original cover (2nd screen cover) and the bought one and therefor a nice niche for the dust to accumulate! I will order a 2nd protective glass to do it the right way. (But why the earth does the phone have 2 covers?!?)
If you took the phone out of the box and immediately blew over the earpiece then maybe the fog grew between first screen cover and second screen cover which has the camera cut out which the first has not. So there’s a slight air filled gap between where fog can grow. Just my thoughts.
Good interesting point!
I hope still that Jolla’s official support for new Xperias do continue in the future, because that is a rock solid option for people who’s way of life make it in need a fully waterproof Sailfish officially supported device.
My Xperias did touch the bottom of many lakes in northern europe (Sápmi) and are still up and kicking .
Slowly starting to see dust build up on the front camera for a phone (pre-order #53xx) that was sent on its way on the 7th of August and picked from the Finnish Posti on the 11th.
All the way to that point the issue with the dust build-up had already been brought up and what, something over 1000 phones had already been delivered?
In their first response on the 29th of July it was implied that the issue could be present on the phones that were delivered on the Jolla Phone Day1 event or mailed between July 9-29.
But it can be gathered from the messages under this very topic that phones that have been sent after the 29th of July are experiencing this issue from which I’d just bluntly go on to say that the issue affects somewhat all the phones (that have been sent out).
It was mentioned in their reply on the 17th of August that “We will be contacting the affected customers and will provide a replacement unit”. My ultimate question is that who will be eligible for the replacement? As far as I gather from this very topic that there might already be around 1500 phones out there with this issue. Will Jolla replace all those units? That must have come with some cost to them. Or are only those eligible for the replacement unit that have voiced here that their phone has dust build-up on their front camera?
From what Jolla has said, only a fraction of the assembled/sent phones have the dust issue. I forget exactly what they said, but I had the impression it might be 1/5th of phones. Please don’t take that number as accurate, but if it was then it would be more like 300 phones affected (which is still a lot, but more managable).
My main concern is how do I know if I will be affected? I don’t want to spend a week transfering my life to my new phone (and setting it up carefully), and then find out I have to do that once or twice more because I must send it back to Jolla. So my new phone sits on my desk, being unused for the moment
A good start would be for Jolla to clarify when they started sending phones where the assembly error has been completely fixed.
Forgive me for not having time to do my fact-checking:
batch1 devices were supposed to have more ram? Is this still a thing?
I still haven’t set up my batch1 JP2 - sits comfortably in its package. It’s an orange batch one-er shipped at the end of july, so its safe to say it hasn’t got its sensor sealing.
