Jolla C2 - Mobile carrier data NOT WORKING

I mean, how come this feature was not tested before the Reeder phone with Sailfish OS release to the customers?

The dysfunction of mobile data in Finland (DNA, Telia, Elisa, MOI) prevents the reliability of C2 when you leave house (btw; i don’t even have a WiFi possibility here; i have to ask a little help from my friends, and they laugh at this situation). This is very not good …

The default Browser works with mobile data, but nothing much else in means of every day needs (where Android app is defo needed).

For example [duplicate] Mozilla Firefox / Fennec F-Droid (apk) browsers - "no internet connection" (mobile data, Android AppSupport is on) - #12 by nthn

I hope Jolla would communicate on this; WHY exactly such vital feature as mobile operator internet data is not working? Not even, indeed, in for default suggested F-Droid store (or Aurora Store).

Or is it just me? I really can’t use my new phone ANY BETTER than the 2013 Jolla One :expressionless:

Edit: Someone here earlier stated that this issue is a “known problem” and so on. How long? Are we supposed to carry the old Jolla One phone with the SIM card in that, sharing the internet to use C2? Really? What am i missing?

The title is incorrect.

Mobile data is working fine in the SFOS side.
Android AppSupport has its problems.

Also please, if you post a BugReport, use the Bug report template text. (You can also use the Bugger! app, it is supposed to make this easier.)

If you want to free-form rant, use another subforum (or consider not posting at all).

[EDIT:] this thread was originally posted in Bug Reports. It was later moved.

Please read the Release notes before creating a bug report:

and so on. The Jolla people working hard to increase your experience. Please support them with some patience. Thanks.

So why do they offer by default F-Droid during the installation? And Aurora Store? These do not work with a mobile carrier connection with a SIM card.

Of course these should work. This is not ranting to the slightest; this phone does not work on it’s own currently. No matter how you feel for it. I feel for it too, but the reality is: one has to have Jolla One in pocket with a SIM card and internet sharing for that WiFi.

How exactly is this not a critical dysfunction? I’m NOT trying to do anything else here but to encourage the speed up to this basic functionality.

Then please try to search before posting duplicate and long known info. We’re all impatient but incoherent ranting doesn’t speed things. After all you decided to buy a beta phone.

No, the C2 was not sold as a Beta device.

Yes, I know I wrote it. Quoting it simply avoided the need for me to type it all again in this thread. My name is on the top of the original post, so there really can’t be any confusion that I wrote it can there be?

And your decision to buy the C2 is hopefully not only based on the jolla information but you have visited this forum to get a feel of the situation the OS and its users are in …

Maybe, but maybe not.

If they are users new to Sailfish (I think it was stated elsewhere on this forum that a large proportion of C2 users were actually new to SFOS) I don’t think you can assume that they (a) even knew of the existence of this forum prior to purchasing, (b) ploughed through the many 100’s of posts on the C2 issues and workarounds that now exist, and (c) understood all the posts even if they did read them - especially if they were non-techies.

There’s a Jolla blog/news on their website, but the last entry is very old news from February 2023. There is no link to this forum from the Jolla Shop page where the C2 is advertised, nor is there any ‘Support’ tab or entry on the site top menu telling you how to get help (e.g. On this forum).

There is a link to this forum in text under ‘community’, but I would suggest that this is not immediately obvious to a new user going straight to the products or shop pages to look at buying a new phone.

Promoting links to this forum (and more generally where and how to get help, report bugs, etc), at the top level of their website and in their site shop for Salfish products, as well as keeping their news/blog up to date, would cost Jolla nothing but would improve the user experience and communication significantly as well as making prospective purchasers more informed about whether SFOS or the C2, etc was suitable for them before they buy as you say.

All this stuff is really not hard, its just common sense.

It’s also hilarious how obvious shortcomings “but they’re getting fixed ya!11!!1” are getting upvotes

HONESTLY and currently: Jolla C2 is unsusable for daily use. Simple as bloody that. SFOS apps are so basic it hurts. We need Android support apps working with MOBILE DATA! (As they did on Jolla One!). I mean, WHY NOT? WHAT IS THE PROBLEM NOW?

As i said: my neighbours laugh at me when i got to them to try WiFi on this new Jolla phone (i don’t have WiFi in the house).

I expected much more apart from a new Jolla phone. Currently i can do more with 2013 (Jolla One)

I highly doubt that Jolla’s engineers use this C2 phone in their daily life and needs. I mean, how could they? With a Jolla One in their pocket (SIM card and WiFi sharing) - or a regular Android phone?

ALL HANDS ON DECK NOW! MOBILE 4G and 5G NEED TO WORK with Android apps - (we are late already - and this phone and Jolla gets bad rep).

Jolla One (from 2013) is working better - so what, Jolla, are you doing??

C2 doesn’t have 5G modem.

No? So what does that piece of information solve?

Yes, indeed; Elisa; MOI, DNA and Telia … NONE of these work to use for example whatsapp, Telegram or F-Droid on C2.

It could be the same in France’s, Germany’s, Portugal’s or whatever carriers mobile data network connectivity.

Re-read your previous post and try to figure it out by yourself how this info helps.

This is not a helpful post. I know what i have posted, obviously. There is no update yet on the phone to get the mobile carrier networking working, so. …

There is no need to work ASAP on 5G as C2 doesn’t have the capabilities of 5G. So better to focus only on 4G. You see, already an improvement. Pretty sure that they are working on 4G, and the next Release will have this functionality. Patience!

Patience!? How long more to get basic functionality working, as in Jolla One in 2013? Oh, please. Is Sami Pienimäki here btw? @spienima
