It’s good that someone is finally doing this! Otherwise, the Jollyboys would just be sitting around in the main quarter, twiddling their thumbs, drinking vodka and waiting for spring!
Not working though, this approach.
Looking forward for the next update. That was a little bit funny though, i guess.
if you are not satisfied with the product you bought, or when basic functionality is not working - why not to return your phone back to Jolla, or sell them here in forum for the same price you bought it?
Jolla decided to deliver the C2 quickly, as they already were late with the delivery, they made the decision to not postpone the delivery and deliver it with a beta state os.
in this case our great SF community can help to solve bugs and make the new version more stable and better.
For me personally this situation is ok, i have Sony Xperia 10 ||| which works great as Daily driver, so for me its a bit un-understandable why you can’t use you previous phone for the next couple of month until C2 problems are solved?
One more Problem is, this is no offence to the new users btw, but many new, most young users, read somewhere about the “cool Linux-Based mobile OS” and decide to buy the new Jolla Phone, because i am also a cool hacker and a geek! I installed Ubuntu on my Notebook, so i am a Linux professional now!
After they get the Jolla C2, they wonder why they can’t use it the same way they use the previous iPhone/android. “But they promised me, i can run Android apps!” Its a crap, nothing works!"
I see this approach unfortunately also in this forum. Of course - Linux and SailfishOS is for everybody.
But why the people expect, that all what they had on the previous phone will run the same way on SailfishOS.
I think, this is simply because, they doesn’t read about this OS enough, they haven’t asked questions in the forum, they didn’t tried SailfishOS on an older phone (maybe Port)… They simply want to have something cool!
The argument “Jolla have not informed us about all the bugs the SailfishOS has, and all things, which not work” is also a bit funny.
Its a selling ad. No company who make chocolate would advertise that you can get Diabetes from sugar.
Jolla is a company. That is normal, that they advert only the positive things SailfishOS has.
About all bugs and negative things you need to inform by yourself…
So all folks who are not satisfied with Jolla C2 and the state of OS: Just send it back and get your money back. Or sell it here in forum, many guys asked that they want to buy the C2.
This is my friendly advice. I am an SailfishOS user from day one. Before i had Meego on N9, and before Nokia N900 (And before Psion 5mx Pro with EPOC/Linux dual-boot). So i know, what i am talking about. In good hands SailfishOS is more than usable. Its absolutely “daily-driver-ready”. But new Hardware brings always new bugs, which need to be solved. And this take time…
If you are not happy with the speed Jolla fixes the bugs, than you will be also unhappy in the future. Just jump to another, more stable OS.
Want be cool and have Linux in the pocket? Be prepared for the pain! Be prepared to wait, ask, read, solve bugs by yourself. This is the price for it
Moved this thread from Bug Reports to General.
Neither the original post nor the following discussion meet the required properties of a bug report.
I suspect they are actually all in a warehouse somewhere - after all they’ve got 1,000 C2s to unbox, re-flash, boot-up, go through the initial setup, shutdown, re-box and send out - so I expect it is all hands to the pumps to the exclusion of working on pretty much anything else at the moment.
EDIT: something less than 1,000 …
I don’t think people expect Sailfish, and/or the C2, to run the same way as everything else, but they do expect it to … well, run. Most people choose Sailfish precisely because it is different.
At the moment its rather like buying a sports car from a small niche manufacturer that you see advertised, but when its delivered only then do you find out that there are no headlamps or wipers. When you complain to the manufacturer they say “Oh, didn’t we tell you about that? They’ll be added in a future release sometime soon … in a few weeks … or may be longer”
Some people will be happy with a car that you can only drive during the day when it isn’t raining, but most will not be. Some people on this forum advance the view that customers should think themselves lucky that they get anything working at all (“wow, its actually got four wheels - I wasn’t expecting that - Thank-you so much!”) because the sports car manufacturer “is a small company with limited resources and they’re doing the best they can”
Most of the dissatisfaction around the C2 could have been managed better by selling it as what it actually is, rather than what Jolla hope it will be one day - in other words a work-in-progress device for community developers and Linux specialists to experiment with and help refine into a mature product over time, rather than an out-of-the-box phone allowing the user to experience “Sailfish as its meant to be”.
Thank you. The problem with us lesser forum users is that it only makes sense, from a continuity perspective, to reply to a post in the thread that is currently in that thread - we can’t move them.
Well, as mine is running, it must be <=999.
But what I wanted to say is that putting pressure on people who are already working under high pressure is pretty pointless.
Agreed, but at the same time they need to know the scale of the problem so that they can determine the best approach to solving it - and it seems that this community is their chosen feedback mechanism. So my view would be to absolutely post about things that are working, not working, etc - but do it in a factual, emotion free manner that helps Jolla understand the situation on the ground.
What are you talking about, dude. Of course your “logical post” gets many upvotes. But here’s the thing; why not just make C2 work as 2013 released Jolla One did for starters?
Why would any Jolla and Sailfish OS enthusiast RETURN this gadget, when the problems can be solved via updates. I think many owners have not reported these very basic shortcomings thus far in adequate numbers.
This comes forth as nothing short from “elitist” approach. But yeah, let’s just downplay regular users who only want the likes of SMS messaging and mobile carrier networking work properly on a modern phone with an OS we all love. Your attitude is “Jolla is all good and well on how they handled this”.
No; this gadget on Sailfish OS was not tested properly at all. This matter is very simple.
Many user’s “have not reported these” because they have taken the time to actually read about known bugs both from Jolla’s side as well as those already reported.
Jolla is working on improving the C2. I’m sure if it was just as easy as snapping their fingers and everything would be perfect, they would have done so at launch.
Great then, no problem
So no more repeating, .
In this case you have the right to give the car you bought back and get your money back. And buy another car, which meet you needs.
or you say: i love this car so much, i will wait until the missing parts are delivered.
btw. The much prised Tesla have also many problems with QA, missing screws, funny noises during ride etc…
what i want to say is: take it, or leave it.
Jolla had many FuckUps since 2013.
But i still use it, because i see no other alternatives for my needs. Everybody need to decide for himself.
there are thousands Android/iphones on the market, which just works.
You want something special? Be prepared for bugs. Becuse its complex. To develop a good running SailfishOS device costs much more, than a simple Android phone.
And when you have limited ressources - it takes longer. And without community you simply can not test all the things, which may go wrong.
keep calm and wait for the updates!
Don’t go on that road… Can I give back my CO2 emissions manipulated VW back to the german dealer? In Germany(European Union), not in USA. Cause the MoFo doesn’t want to take it back and there is no law to make him doing so.
Probably not. But when my car don’t drive - i have the right to give it back. CO2 Emissions is something, what not (yet) packed into a law
Funny fact: I work for the company who developed this “Schummel-Software” for CO2 Emissions fake
Of course, if the car is faulty or its capability/functionality has been misrepresented at the time of sale, you can return it.
But this is what, six months after you paid your clearly stated non-refundable deposit, and maybe three months after you paid the balance of the purchase price? And only now, after you’ve taken delivery, do you find out what the car is really like?
So, you’ve been waiting for quite a while and have lost at least time and some money. Wouldn’t it have been better if the car manufacturer had been more honest up front about the car and its capabilities on delivery before you wasted all this time and effort?
Indeed. The best thing Jolla could do to help themselves is to stop scoring so many own goals.
