Is there any fully working device out there?

I’m getting more and more frustrated with the actual Sailfish situation.
(Even that much that I really think of alternatives, which I haven’t done since my Jolla First one)

I have a Xperia 10 III - Battery has gone so bad, I am not able anymore to come through a full day. So it’s a brick.

I have two Xperia 10 V - So in the end semi bricks as well.

I have a Volla Quintus and had the bad luck that I got a device from a newer batch with newer camera hardware. So main camera and flash light are not working. After the last update today vibrator is broken as well. There are further minor issues. But without vibration it is definitely not usable as a daily driver anymore . So at the moment a semi brick as well.

I have a C2 as well. Most things work but it’s not a semi brick but a brick. It’s huge and it’s horribly slow.

So I’ve spend for my last four devices nearly 2.000 €. None of them is working in a way I can be satisfied with.

So my question is, is there ANY phone which is fully supported at the moment.

There is Fairphone 5 But I think waydroid isn’t working. Hardware acceleration doesn’t work as well. What does this mean in real live. Are there further letdowns? This would be my favourite at the moment, if there is not more that doesn’t work.

Then there is the new Nagara port. But there as well are some letdowns. Not all cameras are supported. Is waydroid working?

So what REAL options do a Sailfish lover has at the moment, if he wants a proper smartphone half way future proof.

XA2 activist here. biggrin Not future-proof. Present-proof, which is already a thing.

My usage is light, few web, few Android apps (almost never, actually)
Fernschreiber, Whisperfish, SMS, MMS, pics, some mail, Pure Maps, OSM Scout, Unplayer, SShazam, Calendar, encrypted uSD hourly auto-backups, and of course, phone calls.

I have a dd cloned XA2 in case I lose the first one.
For this usage, I’d say my XA2 are perfect. 20-50€ for used ones.

If you have an intensive usage or are impatient, it is not the good solution though.

I’d say Xperia 10 ii is fully working (not aware of any deficiencies)

Thanx for suggestions so far. I miss the future proof part. I know that Xperia 10 II is fully working. My girlfrind is running one (and I had one as well until it was stolen). But I refuse to buy such old devices, like XA2 and the 10 II.

You are right - or maybe not. The Xperia 10 ii is old and slow, but feature complete. As long as this device is supported by Jolla it is future proof (and remains slow - also not slower than C2)

That is true, anyway I stand to the sentence, that I will not buy such old devices anymore.:upside_down_face:

No, there is obviously no fully functional Sailfish OS phone.
But, hey, they all run the terminal.
That’s cool and useful, right?

Re cameras: right now 3 out of 4 cameras are supported. in addition to selfie camera, regular and telephoto are switched between each other depending on zoom settings in the app. You cannot choose one yourself as it is currently working based on camera1

Re waydroid: not (yet?). @vlagged looked a bit into it, but right now its not working.

Re other issues: in general, its quite solid for me. I use it as a daily driver and we have all known bugs listed. One aspect that currently makes it a bit more difficult to use is that you have to compile Lineage for it yourself.

Thanx @rinigus this sound really promising!!!
Xperia 5 IV is very sexy expecially because it isn’t that large.

Mr. Magister is thinking of an up to date phone soon. His oneplus 6 is still nice and affordable.

I own a 10 III, too. Untill a week ago it was a fully functional SFOS phone needing a new battery.

Guess what? Now it’s a fully functional SFOS phone with a new battery.

A Chinese phone is an option, I would like to avoid. I would prefer to have a phone from a democratic country (I know that many parts are from china anyway - but I’m a too political person, to not even try to avoid). So at the moment I tend more to a Sony or a Fairphone, if possible. That was one of the reasons for the Volla Quintus. A really nice phone by the way - If I would have been more lucky with the time to order.

Waiting for further things to come is no option. I need a working phone NOW. Otherwise I would just wait until the Quitus is working to my liking. But I have no clue how long this will take.
Android support is not the most important part for me. So @rinigus port sounds very tempting (Is the hot spot working by the way?)

@WT.Sane
Yes, this is indeed an option I should think about

yes. see GitHub - sailfishos-sony-nagara/main: Documentation, releases, and issues - we list functionality with it.

now, you would need access to PC with 310GB storage (nvme recommended) for Lineage compilation and probably some more for SFOS image. at this stage, you have to basically follow Wiki docs in the same repo and make the build yourself.

PS: Replacing the battery - that I have done on my XZ2 and it does help

If I decide to give the Xperia 5 IV a try, that should be possible. Even so I have not that much experience with compilating stuff. So maybe I will torture you with stupid questions then. I will decide what I do the next days.

Battery life of the 10 III was always bad. One reason for the worn battery.
At the moment I tend to flash it with Linage or something like that. For the seldom cases where I need a real Android phone.

What are your nonsense answers for?
I already have C2.

Sure. But then make sure you will be updating the docs if needed

I will. I promise.

Many parts? All of them.

I doubt. Taiwan is not China.
…not yet.

think it through before jumping to nagara. its a small project to get it up and running on user side as well… so, I wouldn’t be surprised if you decide against it
