I’m not that active here any more. Anyway, I’m a constant and exclusive Sailfish user. Unfortunately, I lose more and more track of the devices’ status. I have currently a Xperia 10 II and a Xperia 10 III as daily drivers (for me and my girlfriend).
I have as well two Xperia 10 V lying around waiting for Sailfish. But what I got so far is, that it’s still not in a state which is comparable to Xperia 10 III and some things are not working - as well there is still no unlimited Sailfish licence to buy.
On the other hand, I’m very tempted for the Volla Quintus. But here I have not really a guess what the state of the SF port is. Most things seem to work, but probably not all?! What sre the downsides, will there be a multiboot option in future?
I think that there are others around, having the same thoughts and are not that frequently on this forum. So maybe it would be nice to have a sort of wiki page with all actual official devices and as well unofficial ports. With the actual status of things not working / not available.
Thanx, that is indeed very helpful. So the only thing which isn’t working is fingerprint sensor!?
Are there any known hiccups. I had in the past some problems with network on my rephone. Is waydroid working? Wholly crap it seems Jolla should partner with Volla instead of Sony. @piggz is producing ports like a berserker. while my Xperias are waiting ages until they are reeady to flash.
Xperia V will not have such a license, just like the C2 doesn’t either.
Same for Xperia IV.
On newer phones SailfishOS 5 is a subscription service if you want certain features (Android app support, keyboard text predictions, exchange email support and I think there was also some other feature, but I can’t remember it at the moment).
Of course there will be, it was more than once promised by Jolla. The question is how much will it be. There is a even a poll here on the forum to evaluate what’s the price people are willing to pay.
Jolla has announced the pricing scheme and the details of the subscription mechanism (except security patches; I haven’t seen anyone mention security patches in any discussions).
There is no info about the perpetual license though.
To be honest, the subscription mechanism can be cheaper than the perpetual license if you really want to be frugal.
But many people have some trauma associated with the word “subscription” so they treat this like the end of the world before looking at the details of the subscription mechanism.
I already know most of the links and discussions you mentioned, but that doesn’t change anything.
I think I have to explain to you how corpo speak works.
“We are looking into it” means “we are not looking into it, and we don’t want to do it, but we are just saying this because we have been taught by corpo speak coaches that saying ‘no’ or ‘never’ publicly is bad for PR”.
Do you know who also made forum polls and sent people there just so they wouldn’t ever say ‘no’ publicly, but at the same time completely ignore everything the users asked for in their mobile OS?
Microsoft.
Now, I know that Jolla and Microsoft are not quite the same thing, but you shouldn’t believe blindly what corporations (big or small) tell you.
Promises are not evidence because they are not legally binding and have been broken over and over again by corporations.
It they planned to keep the perpetual license, why didn’t they put it on the same slide with the subscription price when announcing the new monetization model?
I mean, they wouldn’t have had to invent a new model; they were already using it, but they chose to leave it out intentionally.
Why do you think that is?
Think about it.
I think you have no clue what you are talking about. You are three days on this platform and want to tell me that Jolla don’t keep its promises. I started my journey, coming from a Nokia N900 with the Jolla 1. So far, Jolla did all to keep the promises they made. At least if you have a very flexible attitude regarding the word SOON .
Yes there were some trouble with the tablet, but as far as it comes to me, they even kept this promise, I got mine.
So I have absolutely NO doubt, that there will be a perpetual licence
