Feedback on Jolla C2

hi everyone, after few month i can have a vision more complete of jolla c2, this are the principally problems, that i have found in c2 for the moment.

startup seems slow, also the interface, when you scroll the application it seems to jerk; some problems to close the applications, in some cases the menu at the top opens

the audio speaker are terrible, too much worse of sony xperia 10; it sound like mono radio of 50 years before; some one have some tips about?

in additional for the moment
pure maps don’t work properly; it required osm scout server and work off line, on line it crash
phonehook, don’t work properly

I’m sure Pure maps will work properly, once SFOS 5.* are officially released. Phonehook is obsolete code that needs to be recoded, or just put in the bin, because we finally have an inbuilt ‘number block’.
Anyway… all this have nothing to do with SFOS, except that they are native apps, free of charge, from dedicated developers that spend their free time to make your phone a better device.

I agree with you, the loudspeaker of the C2 is terrible. I have now two C2’s and in both its equally bad. Besides the missing notification LED, those are the only hardware glitches. One day, I might open a C2 and replace the loudspeaker with a better suitable one but for now, I don’t dare yet to replace it.

maybe can be solved with different DAC conversion from software; adjusting tone; i don’t know if present a app for loudness and tone adjust or a equalizer app. before to touch the hardware this is a test to do

I have been using the C2 for a few weeks now. I’ve been a Sailfish user from the very beginning (still have the first Jolla phone), until recently I had a Sony Xperia with Sailfish OS (almost 5 years), which fell to the ground and broke. I was therefore relieved to be able to order the Jolla C2. The operation of the phone is one of the highlights of Sailfish OS, unfortunately the hardware of the Reeder is not up to scratch. While the operation was smooth on the Sony, it is a pain on the C2: sometimes the screen freezes, goes black, or the application shrinks when using it for no apparent reason. I’m still convinced by the operating system, but the Reeder C2 is a disaster in terms of hardware.

I don’t recall noticed that. OTOH sometimes it’s not easy to convince it to sense taps on very top of the screen properly.

Hi! Where did you get phone cases for C2? I had to order Reeder S19 max pro S cases from Turkish webshop. It was not an easy trick, as they do not deliver to Finland and not accept Finnish credit cards. I did use Take&Ship to get them paid and delivered. Let’s see what happens.

I recently tried to use the C2 as a navigation device (I thought the bigger battery and larger screen may be handy compared to the Xperia 10 III I use every day), and it was a complete disaster.
Using modrana, I tried to navigate in densely built swiss old towns, and the benefit of the C2 over a paper map was only marginal, most of the time I was using street signs and house numbers to verify my actual location.
Sometimes the GPS position was on point, and the very next moment it claimed to be on the next street, or even two streets away.

The last few days I compared the C2 to the Xperia 10 III, and the Xperia constantly reported to have more satellites in sight and more satellites in use. Is the GNSS-chip of the C2 heavily outdated, am I having a faulty device, or is it a software thing, and the performance is better on android?

Has anybody compared the C2 to the Reeder device with stock android in this aspect?

(Crosspost from First time use instructions thread, hope that is allowed)

Hi all, I received my Jolla C2 yesterday and it worked well until this morning, when my phone crashed while using the browser (the screen was unresponsive) so i shut it down. Now, when trying to start up, it is stuck at the “C2 Sailfish OS” screen indefinitely, and when shutting it down, it restarts automatically again and then is stuck again on the same boot screen. This is both the case when the phone is charging and when it is out of the charger. Also, just noticed that the screen just goes dark out of itself and then reboots automatically again, where it is stuck on the boot up screen again for several minutes. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Crossposting is always bad manners.

I want to share a good feeling about Jolla C2. Though it took about three months to get all working, I am quite happy to have the phone as my daily driver. When having ownkeepass installed I plan to reflash my previous Xperia 10 II to be able to have a phone where testing apps etc is less risky.

After about 4 months of using C2, I have doubts that is it for me or not…
I was so waiting for this phone. It’s my second attempt for SFOS after 10 year and now I’m thinking, should I give new try after next 10 years. Just feel disappointed of it.
I really like this OS overall and I’m ready to give away some comforts, which I have with Android but:

PHONE
Still no access to my Outlook contacts.
Still struggling to end call, because screen on black. Sometimes fast double-click to power helps
Randomly ending the call and swiping to multitasking, it shoes that call is still in progress (even it’s not). When new call is coming is, phone asks what to do with current call (which I do not have)

SMS
After importing all SMS-s from old Android phone, SMS-app open ca 10+ sec. And most biggest conversation is not showing any messages, when I open this conversations.
Cannot send SMS randomly. Once I had to restart the phone twice.

GPS
Solutions, where I have to run GPSInfo app to use it. It’s just not solution for me.
Why should I use third party app, if it should be OS-task?
And it’s still seems to me, that slow first fix and signal lost has hardware related. Or not?

BT
Randomly disconnects from car.

CAMERA
Photo quality is just so bad, that I even don’t want to take pictures with it.
And I’m not talking about image editing, gallery etc.

+outdated browser

And not so important, but still. Android-apps notifications are notifying twice after deleting them form notifications area. Not all notifications (notified app icons) are shown on lock-screen.
And I miss fingerprint sensor. Very annoying to type PIN-code all the time.

All these are daily needed functions, which should work smoothly.
Is there any hope, that all this will be fixed in very near future, that daily usage is not so painful?
Or I should look around for new phone and admit, that I’m not strong enough for this phone?

Youre not strong enough.

Hi all! I just found Jolla C2 and SailfishOS and I am wondering if it at the point where not so technical person without much understanding of Linux could use it? I would like to contribute to development of alternative OS to Android/IOS so best I could probably do is report problems but as I can’t troubleshoot myself that much I don’t know if it helps at all. The feedback from @MRQ suggest that SailfishOS aren’t there yet to people like me to operate it but I wanted to ask the community opinion more widely. Glad to see so many technical person contributing for real alternative beyond Android/IOS!

Its not mandatory when using the basic functions but it will help you when you want to go deeper or in terms of troubleshooting.
