Have you looked right through the very thread you have posted in?, I have, there are problems with every device for handfuls of users, some the same, some old, some new, problems, problems, problems. It seems a handful of users have had no problems and everything works just fine, for others, it came broken out of the box.
For pure maps, you need to switch to the offline profile (press the button at the bottom as soon as it starts, took me a couple of tries) and use OSMScout to download and serve the maps
The browser crash could be an OOM issue (at least lighthouse reports a relatively high ram usage before crashing), restarting it once in a while should keep it from happening, not perfect, but it’s the only thing I’ve found to work
I got my J2 back little more than a week ago. And I also did not charge any shipping costs other than its first shipping back, even though more of them now came.
Phone crashes time-to-time.
Call ends by self. On coverpage it shows call in progress.
Opening app I cannot start new call.
Only restart helps. It’s very annoying.
In germany it connects and makes calls and sends sms on sim1 or sim2 4G, (telecom, reception for mobile network is much better than Librem 5, wifi seems a little slow to connect)
in the US you can send SMS messages but mobile data connection mostly crashes, sim disappears, it shows 2.5G as network indicator, you have to restart it 2-4 times, turn on airplane mode, turn it off after restart wait etc… only works sporadically known issue that sim crashes and disappears if user disables one sim, when enabling both it actually works, albeit with spotty connection, in the US
boot is surprisingly slow, my Librem 5 with byzantium boots faster with full disk encryption
camera is great and works fast, though when taking pictures into direct sunlight colours are a bit washed out and images are overexposed and have a blue tinge (you will have to play with the white balance settings to make it look good)
the sailfish os UI and touch interactions are intuitive, fluid, and flawless
apps are great, and except puremaps haven’t experienced too many app crashes!
GPS appears slow to get a lock, i don’t think it is using any AGPS, also GPS uses online mozilla service which doesn’t exist anymore, so that probably needs to be fixed, instead use AGPS GPS does not work at all for me for Sailfish OS native apps, or for android apps, PureMaps crashes on launch
Aliendalvik and Android integration is leaving something to be desired, at first it worked and I could browse the web using duckduck go android app, but then suddenly no more internet connectivity is detected, works with WIFI does not work with mobile data (known bug), apps like soundcloud do not stream any music with message “SoundCloud won’t run without Google Play services, which are not supported by your device”, most android apps actually work quite well, though apps crash occasionally e.g. robinhood depending on what is selected in the app
Jolla should really have a default disks app so you can claim ownership of a SD inserted from another phone, format, mount systems etc… just like the Gnome Disks app, even when i chowned defaultuser for the SD card, some Jolla Store apps still could not access the data on the SD card, for example kdbx password database
the android storage is separate from C2 sailfish storage, it would be nice to have an option for full integration, where images taken on an android app are simply saved in the pictures folder for sailfish os, using permissions (in general maybe have unified permissions between android and sailfish os)
OpenVPn doesn’t work for some configuration files “Purism One VPN”, it does work for proton openvpn configuration files, but it requires use of credential pass.txt file that stores the user name and password which is not very user friendly, this should be possible from the UI
I tried to copy 32GB from my SD card to the Sailfish OS documents folder and it claimed to be out of space, even though there was plenty of storage remaining, so copying many large files fails, or $home storage isn’t setup properly by default
the sailfish OSK is awesome on this device no delays or lag (other than decrypt and login OSK) and rarely mistype, it would be nice of course if it had a auto suggest or complete feature but that is secondary
MMS do not work even though it appears mobile data is connected 4G, VOIP is enabled, and MMS settings are correct " * MMSC – http://wholesale.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc", also not sure if it is relevant but no all settings are exposed as suggested by Mint e.g. the MMS message port as an example, sailfish OS in general is missing an app similar to Gnome Advanced Network Settings app:
I have taken over a second hand C2 from someone, and immediately updated to 5.0.0.55, I must say that I was looking forward to what Jolla Mobile have already fixed, and for me all android apps work with mobile date and with wifi. good work Jolla Mobile keep up the good work ! thanks!
I tried the same and C2 marked only 74 while my iPhone and Pixel marked 200+. 204ms for ping (14ms by Pixel) it might be the reason why I feel brouwser is painfully slow
I noticed multiple people updated to 5.0.0.55. But my C2 still has 5.0.0.43 and says it is up to date. Is the update not available for all phones the same time?
The early releases are mainly intended for developers, and the screening of potential critical issues with new releases before publishing to the wider audience. Please make sure you backup your data (as you always should) before installing the early release, as we cannot with certainty say that you will not have any problems (such as data loss or corruption). Note that opting in to the early release program does not void your warranty.
Looks like authentication with yubi key (hw key) isn’t working for me on C2.
I tested it in browser. I also activated option u2fsomething in the about:config as mentioned here but no success so far.
Does it work anybody ?
If not, do you know if this could be implemented in the future?
