Just my thoughts about THE BUG
Seems to me it is related to phones received with empty battery, as in my case.
Is it possible the phones somehow turned on while being shipped and empty battery broke the setup which leads to issues with wifi or sth…
Also I am wondering why batteries have so different states and also from my experience, having very low battery level reduces the batterie’s lifespan…
I will wait until next week and if still unclear open a ticket on zendesk.

everyone! This is basic feature of SFOS!
I had 40% battery when connected to charger, mine was not with empty battery on arrival. End result was still the same: Circle of death after inputting security code.
??? As you can read here, it seems possible to flash the device. so wait until Jolla come up with further instructions and no need of presence. I’m very sure there will be an official way promoted by jolla:
Sorry, forget to mention that this was before I got Openrepos working.
At the end, got alternative search engines installed without need for any patches.
Is it though? Flying to Helsinki from Manchester to flash a phone on a weekday doesn’t sound like a very practical way of flashing a device?
There was always a way for Jolla and/or Reeder to flash the C2, otherwise they wouldn’t have been able load SFOS onto the phone during manufacture.
But that might require special equipment, software, etc which is not available to community users - so I don’t think its a given that just because Jolla/Reeder can do it, we will be able to as well.
At Passport Control:
“What is the purpose of your visit to Finland please - Business or Pleasure?”
"I’ve come to flash my device!”
“Err …”
I’ve come to Finland just for a bit of flashing tonight, I’ll be gone by morning, don’t worry
Waiting for the C2. On my other Sailfish devices I use Qwant for several years.
we forget as a community just how tolerant we are of all this
I can see two very different notions of “community” around SailfishOS: Jolla providing something for a community of customers is one. But there is also the idea that a community together with Jolla works to keep alive a viable alternative to the de-facto duopoly of Android and IOS. For me it was always the latter. But there are many angry posts on this forum of people that mistake Jolla for some kind of contender to Apple & Co and that are then disappointed when they again have been “let down” because it turns out Jolla is still just a bunch of well-intentioned Finnish dudes. Based on my understanding of “community” as something where we all work together, I am happily diverting some of my salary and time to Jolla and the community, and I will contribute as good as I can to get the C2 into a usable state. And I am happy if it can become my daily driver at some point next year. Keeping an independent mobile phone OS alive is as important as it is hard. And it takes time, patience and effort - also from the users.
+1
(even that I understand the frustration, when you cannot use your new phone.)
I would like to add this to @snauth comment:
Its a great pleasure to be here and i will have fun to participate too and see how our help will mature SailfishOS and the Jolla C2 and other adaptions.
This Community have something special which led us also through hard times. With all these talented and active Developers/Porters.
Thanks for offering a different perspective without the passion, I was probably expecting a level of refinement which your message helped realign. I’ve followed Jolla for sometime but never actually used it.
Although it may surprise you from my earlier posts, I actually completely agree with you. Without the community Sailfish would just be a relatively flakey OS with a miniscule user base and a few basic apps like browser, email calendar and contacts - and would probably have reached a dead end years ago.
Its the community that provides all the useful apps like messaging apps (Telegram, Signal, etc), utilities, map and tracking apps, travel timetable apps, photo and graphic apps, forum apps, news apps, etc.
Its the community that does all the beta testing of new SFOS releases (and, for the C2, has to even pay a couple of hundred euros for the privilege)
Its the community that has delivered the major functionality improvements to the core apps like the ESR 91 browser, calendar, etc in recent years which has improved Jolla’s product line
And its the community that finds all the workarounds to software issues, functionality issues, etc.
And that’s all fine and I support this approach totally.
But, this kind of relationship has to work both ways, doesn’t it?
Jolla is not just a bunch of well intentioned Finnish dudes, its a commercial company tasked by its shareholders to make a profit which they can then take in dividends
It doesn’t matter whether its a small or large company - they’re selling a commercial product, the C2, Sailfish X, Jolla Mind, Car integration or whatever, for money - your money. Jolla is not a charity, but sometimes I think we treat it as such and forgive things that happen (like the C2 issues) that we wouldn’t forgive for a purchased product from any other company - like @Kea says below:
All I am saying is I think Jolla needs a new, more honest, thankful and transparent approach to the community that is literally keeping their SFOS business alive for them. Nothing more.
Whatever Jolla is, the point is it can make money aelling products to consumers. If product isn’t good enough company dies.
I really don’t want to see Jolla dies.
But let’s see how far sailfiah gets without it’s community? Not far most people don’t know about it’s existence and if they knew they wouldn’t even consider its valuable therefore not try it’s products.
We as the community are here not only because we hate android/ios. We are mostly whats consider as nerds. We want os that we can mess with. C2 won’t be able to reach outside of community as it is right now. We need to mess with ot to find out all the bugs so they can be dealt with. But for this we need at least partially working device.
To get this we need a way to flash.
I think we as the community shouldnt ask for it, ot should be given. As we have some power why don’t we start a thread in which in most kindly way say to Jolla that we expect Jolla to provide a way to get devices working as we didn’t pay for it only to spend 3x more money to fly to finland.
I was almost sure that Jolla having it’s partner would provide great device. It didn’t. So I see only two reasons for this happening. Either they really don’t care about its most valuable customers or they just not able to provide a stable platform.
Most of previous problems where explain mostly because of sony is as it is, but it’s clear now, without sony its even worse…
Jolla is not just a bunch of well intentioned Finnish dudes, its a commercial company tasked by its shareholders to make a profit which they can then take in dividends
Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that for you it is either-or: either something is a commercial entity or a charity. For me there are a lot of shades of grey inbetween, most charities are commercial entities and most companies have more goals than to sell stuff and make money. Jolla has many times proven that they are not very good at making money but at least they are still here, partly thanks to the community that wants Jolla to succeed. I understand the disappointment but I am afraid it is partly based on a misunderstanding about what Jolla and the c2 is and can be.
Sending text messages and connecting to the Internet with Android applications doesn’t work on 4G, only on 3G and below.
