Same opinion here. I was waiting so long for the device, so returning seems like pain in the ass. Sorry for beeing direct. I would like to have an image so the problem would dissaperar.
Or not? Maybe we are all wrong and broken devices are broken in hardware way?
Going by online reviews of Reeder there’s a high chance some of the failures could be hardware induced.
At this stage (and I work for automotive) you would expect Jolla to have someone from Reeder present and firewalling any device not shipped yet, and someone from Jolla supervising the remaining production in Turkey too.
Of course this is just my opinion and speculation until a root caused is found and a solution communicated.
I would also be happy to reflash my Jolla C2 by myself instead of shipping it back to Finland. I am pretty sure, if such possibility existed - Jolla would offer it, instead of receiving the devices and shipping updated devices back. It can have multiple roots:
Jolla never offered official firmware images for the own devices like: Jolla JP-1301, Jolla Tablet JT-1501, Jolla C JP-1601
Flashable images exist only for Sailfish X Subscription Models: Sony Xperia Models and Planet Gemini PDA.
Some of the C2 devices are defective? eMMC, WiFi ?
Is here some guideline about when user callin the device broken and when not? Because a lot of things didn’t work correct on c2 independen if it 5.0.0.5 or 5.0.0.21
So it is broken when android apps wont get an internet connection? Is it broken when you’re not able to connect to wifi? is it broken with no touch input? Is it broken when sms sometimes work and sometimes not?
I only wanna know if all talking about the same all the time… When is your device broken to you?
For me personally - the basic functionality should work. Phone calls, SMS, WiFi, Touch Input, Lock code etc.
Things like Android Apps - could be buggy on the first release of the beta device.
Ok… For me for example, sometimes wifi drops and wont accept the wlan password. after a few tries its working. Also sms, not working reliable. Sometimes i can send a message and somteimes dont. Android apps have no internet connection on mobile network. Also the system often freezes for 30 seconds or so, then its movin an. From time to time the text input wont work. I could add more things like that and the question is, are this the normal hiccups wich will be fixed with an update or ist this already broken and the device have to get back to jolla.
Well, if i would have such problems (mine C2 is on the way back to Jolla because of the spinning circle of death) - i would wait for the second and third update before i send the device back.
Its a beta device with a beta state OS. So its understandable, that problems will exists at the beginning.
I can tell you, that since 11 years, that i use SailfishOS Devices - its working the same way. Always the same pattern:
Device is coming out with a “pre-beta” state of the OS. →
Its gets much better after approx. 1 Year, →
after 2 years its superstable, →
New devices with new Hardware is coming out. →
I buy this device - same game again.
It was with all my devices: Jolla, Jolla C, Xperia X, Xperia XA2, Xperia 10 III
I remember setting up Jolla 1. There were no problems like this. Which doesn’t mean the OS was as mature as it is now, but WILAN, mobile function, general mail etc. and Jolla Store worked from the start.
Thx… I’m pretty sure too that this kind of problems will be sorted out with upcoming updates. But I was unsure if everybody understands the same when talking about c2 and be broken or normal beta symptoms…
Jolla 1 worked for me well at first, but problems started after each update. I bought this phone after I ditched my iphone 3 GS. Sometimes bugs on J1 were so serious that I could smash the thing out of the window. But patience was rewarded. It’s also this: how many difficulties are you willing to accept?
Well. My wife tells me - if after each update i didn’t find serious bugs - life would be boring for me.
Maybe this i the case, why we use SailfishOS. We need bugs, pain, and solutions. … Something to tinker with…
iPhone is boring. You can’t even break something with an unknown patch from a guy who told you “it should work”
Not agree with you, mine Jolla C1 was on the firtst moment in well state without any issue, and tha same X, XA2, X10 mark 1, and X10 mark 3 none of this problems, and next remark for Jolla C1 also for Jolla Tablet, and older Jolla 1 factory images will be published not surement vi oficial channel, but it was working, thanks a lot of “Coderus”, and at lastone thanks a lot of “Zeffanyx”
The problem is, despite many troubles Jolla/Sailfish can exist for years with the support of a dedicated fanclub. But in it’s contemporary condition the chance of obtaining growth, of attracking new customers is very small. I am sorry to say. Anyway a more professional business approach is needed.
So far, I broke two iPhones - beyond the possibility to recover any data (the last one I broke was an iPhone X in May). I do not even know, how this happend. So far I never experienced such fatal defect with any SFOS device. The iPhones I broke were not rooted. IMO iPhones are not only boring but annoying. I do not trust them enymore …
