What do you think, should a new topic be started for those whose device gets stuck after entering the security code? If so, which line should we start on?
1:1 my story
Hi,
I got my C2 today. After setup I updated to latest OTA 5.0.0.21.
There is a problem with Camera application.
I get a test pattern when I open it:
I can not take pictures or record videos.
Any idea what could be the issue?
Thanks!
Looks like the gstreamer-droid plugin got blacklisted. Try removing the ~/.cache/gstreamer-1.0 dir (or move it aside) and restart camera
Did you update to 5.0.0.21 where the browser is updated?
My C2 is still in version 5.0.0.5, update menu is blocked at waiting for connexion…
I’ll try to force the update with another Wifi network and update my feedback after the update
I got mine. It was powered off and hat about 30% battery. First I charged it to 100%. Then did the first steps with an exact 5 digits security code and 5GHz Wifi. Updated the os. Enabled dev mide. Then I keept it powered on. That is over 4 days ago and battery is at 77%. I’ll wait for the next OTA update to configure it and use it as a daily driver.
For me the C2 so far seems to work fairly well, but I did not have too much time to test yet. Init, Update etc. went fine. Also calling with 4g seemed to work, at least the sceen was showing 4g. Also internet in the Jolla Apps work.
What did not work so well:
Some Apps like Contacts have long start time or even crash on first try, but usually work on second try. Android stores do not get any internet connection.
Oh, wait, no that I try it again, actually the Aurora store for the first time shows something useful. Maybe it only works via Wifi? I tried via SIM before. So now I could install some Android app, and it seems to work. Sweet.
After update to 5.0.0.21 (Thanks Filip.k) :
Data (4G)
Sending Calling
Receiving Calling (Orange France)
Receiving SMS
Sending SMS (Orange France)
DTMF not working on call
Wifi now negotiate on 5 Ghz displayed at 54 Mb/s but negociate faster
predictive keyboard not working
no fingerprint sensor
browser updated, I note some improvement on previously unsupported websites.
need more test but first impression is better.

Managed to setup mine, updated to 5.0.0.21. Mostly seems to work, except some apps that install, but do not show in the menu (Chum included as noted before). AppSupport feels very sluggish. Someone did AppSupport Geekbench tests, GPU one is okay, CPU is noticeably slower. For comparison CPU benchmarks on Xperia 10 III AppSupport are almost the same as “native” Android.
I’ll retest C2 when I get home later, just in case it shows different results.
I noticed as well that Android apps seem to have only internet when connected to Wifi. Could someone else verify this also?
Been widely reported.
Can someone confirm that the device has no pictures, videos or music whatsoever in its default state?
The other Jolla devices had always some fancy sailing-related pictures…
Yea was a clean slate when it arrived, no media to speak of. Good thing IMO
Same here! No luck with 00000
Perfect. I was just surprised.
I agree with you in that such thing is a good thing.
I got my C2 yesterday, the battery charge was 70%, I fully charged it, setup and upgrade worked without any issues.
First impressions:
- size of the device is big, it is good for reading and typing is easier.
- screen resolution is not an issue, however I found automatic brightness adjustment too sensitive or too high at low light conditions.
- no notifications LED as well as fingerprint sensor is very noticeable
- battery consumption, with WiFi on no SIM is great, 1% drop overnight
- compared to 10 III C2 feels slower eg opening apps
- the cover case cuts do not perfectly aligned with the phone buttons/sockets. The screen protector film should have been 1-2mm wider
- front camera notch is rather large and cuts several screen lines at the top of the screen. The bezel at the bottom is rather wide.
- I went away from AP and lost WiFi access, coming back later the phone could not connect to WiFi, I had to go to airplaine mode and back to connect.
I received my device today. It works.
Pros:
- The camera works better than with all my other Jolla Phones (original, Xperia XA2, Xperia 10 III. Very snappy, focusing quickly and the images are of astonishing quality.
Cons:
- The protective sleeve looks and feels cheap. I regret having ordered it and will definitely replace it, if I keep the phone.
- The plastic is very soft. I don’t feel like holding this in my hand for very long/often.
- There is a seam from the molding process around it, which makes it feel cheap
- It seems to pick up grease from my hands like a magnet
- The phone is much bigger than I anticipated. I immediately decided to replace the C2 with a smaller device, when a stable alternative is available and until then I will keep on using my 10 III, which already was bigger than I wanted.
- I realized the camera notch is a total waste of resources for a company like Jolla. (but maybe it had to be done, because phones increasingly come with it?)
Other than the tutorial not working (Tutorial did not react to touch or swipe, had to reboot phone and skip the tutorial), I didn’t encounter any problems setting up the device when I received it.
But, I ordered a phone and got a tablet
The size is really, well, unhandy, and I am happy that I ordered an Xperia 10 V as a successor to my Xperia 10 III, I just don’t like that large form factor of the C2. The lower absolute and relative resolution doesn’t seem to be a problem.
I will need a belt pocket for the C2 if I ever want to carry it around, does anybody know of a good product I can order online?
Compared to the Xperia 10 III, the Jolla C2 seems to be a bit slower when browsing the web. Compatibility of the browser is better, but I still see the browser crashing. However, I am not sure how fair this comparison is, as the software version is not the same.
Can’t tell to much about behavior of other software, haven’t found the time to install a lot so far. I also realized how much is missing in the regular store, I definitely need storeman for thinks like modrana.
To be honest, I clearly recall the Jolla C being lambasted for having very underwhelming hardware, being worse than the then-3-years-old original Jolla Phone in several aspects - especially with regards to the camera. To this day, eleven years after its release, the best Sailfish device still remains that original Jolla Phone, because its only bugs were Sailfish bugs. It didn’t suffer from any of the plethora of hardware adaptation bugs that all of the other official Sailfish ports/devices are plagued with. This is not nostalgia speaking, every time I turn on my old Jolla Phone I’m impressed how smoothly everything opens and how many apps, including Android apps, can run at the same time without running out of memory. It can (literally) have more apps open than my Xperia 10 II, there’s no lag in the menus, the animations don’t stutter, apps open much faster than on the Xperia 10 II, the browser is smooth (despite the old engine), and so on. If it weren’t for the now severely outdated Android support, it could still be a perfectly functional (and pocketable) phone today.
Hopefully the C2 is a step back in the direction of the original Jolla Phone, even in spite of this seemingly quite disastrous start. I look forward to receiving mine, although I wonder if perhaps I should just use it as a 7 inch tablet.
I also wonder if Jolla are already having second thoughts about the (default) subscription model. With a permanent license, they can release updates when they feel like it, but with a subscription-based license, they have to release updates and there is much more time pressure, which is probably precisely what has led to so many customers having their device bricked on arrival.
