Feedback on Jolla C2

Wait, you could unlock phone with your foot this whole time? I didn’t knew! xD

A footprint sensor behind the display. Seems reasonable, given the phone’s size

Oh I would love to have a bigger screen!
I wish you all good luck with fixing the C2’s bugs but am very confident that it will reach a fine state at the end.

Unfortunately, it is a disappoitmnet, so far. I haven’t used Jolla since SFOS 3. I hade some hope on this, that it might be usable as only driver. But as described above there are several drawbacks.

it’s very laggy, which I find disturbing - hard to believe it’s 8 G of RAM in it. Camera is really poor, but one advantage is that my Unihertz Titan Slim appears to have a really good camera - quality is far ahead really. Lack of fingerprint sensor and no way to use face recognition is really unbelievable - how could they opt this out, it is 2024!? Finally, the size — it’s a monster!

The remaining problems discribed by many I hope will be fixed over time. I will hang on a year to see, but umfortunately, the C2 will be a second driver, more to play with than to use.

I’d say the speaker goes loud enough, but it can’t reproduce any lower frequencies, so the sound is always very tinny, like you’re hearing it playing from a cardboard box in another room. Basically, a cheapo speaker. Also, in contrast to the Xperia 10 series, only the bottom speaker is used for media playback, and in addition to that, like on the original Jolla Phone, one of the two speaker grilles on the bottom is fake.

For those who’ve used the original Jolla Phone, the speaker is extremely similar, just louder.

If you didn’t know, you can at least get a fake tap-to-wake this way (if you don’t have mcetool installed, you’ll first need to run pkcon install mce-tools):

After a few days I must say, that - besides the known limitations - the C2 works really well. It is way faster than my XA2 and I managed to install all my necessary apps (some from open repos - as Fahrplan, OwnKeepass… - as I couldn’t find them in the Jolla harbour; some from F-Droid or Aurora - ING banking app, Deutsche Bahn App, Whatsapp - without MicroG or Google Playservices).
Haven’t tested a SIM cards yet, as there are still issues.

Camera is mediocre, but ok for my use cases. The bumper is really bad.

Hi,

after 2 days. When I use SIM internet there are issues. Android apps are not working thrue the SIM internet at all. Only apps from sailfish store. There are aome problems with sim cards at all. After one call they arw crashing and disapearing. There is no possibility to call .I have to reset phone.

Thrue a wifi evry app has internet. Even android apps. Its useless with those issues. Cant call cant use internet… Phone witouth phone

Cover cutout between top two cameras and flash really helps to rectify spreading the light.

does anyone else have the issue that adjusting the base brightness while in auto-brightness mode does virtually nothing? I see the “Brightness” value in csd changing accordingly, but would expect the auto-brightness to somehow adapt.

I just got my C2 in my hand, omg this is big.
Battery 56%, now charging.

To be honest, I didn’t pay attention to the size of the phone when ordering it.

yes, I have a similar issue, in auto-brightness mode I found the actual brightness too high, I have disabled auto to manual, not ideal but better.

Hi rla88, I did reboot with SIM card inserted in SIM slot 1 slot, entering my 5 character correct PIN did not resolve the issue. Inserting a SIM card in SIM slot 2, did not resolve the issue, either.

Making phone calls is possible with 2G or 3G. 4G is still being worked on, and hopefully the internet connection in the mobile network will also be developed.

Has anyone figured out a way to get weather infos (via Meecast) working on the event view?
I tried to install the Chum gui by installing the sailfishos-chum-gui-0.6.8-1.9.1.jolla.aarch64.rpm, it installs but then it cannot get any updates. Meecast eventview for aarch64 is not working yet from Storeman.

Strange, the link seems to work for me.

Anyway, there’s also two videos of it on YouTube:

This one’s in Finnish (and a bit blurry):
