C2: SIM Card Issue - no connection to mobile network

Hi everyone,

I am facing an issue with my SIM Card.
First, when removing the sim card from my old phone, when it was working well, I still get get the mobile network bar even though there is no SIM or eSIM at all. The phone is telling me that I can make emergency calls but there is no SIM card.

Second, when I tried the first time to place the SIM card in the C2, I wasn’t able to make phone calls. I had the message: “No network coverage“ or “Operation is currently unavailable”.
Then, I tried to send a SMS, but it’s stuck in the “Sending” state. Reading other Topics from the forum, I tried to remove the SIM card, reboot, change the slot from 1 to 2 and so on.

However, after rebooting and having the touchscreen not responding (solved after another reboot), I was able to get 4G for a very short time (almost 2 seconds). Then, it has disappeared.
Also, when going to the SIM menu, the 4G VOLTE is blinking and saying: “Not registered” (see screenshot).
Moreover, when trying to enabling mobile networks, the phone ask me to select which SIM I want to use (I am not using dual SIM). Then, it loads for 2 seconds and nothing happens. I have the logo of the sim which is grey with lines but no warning at all (see screenshot).

The network is recognized by the phone though. And now, I can’t even select my sim for the mobile networks. I have set a PIN code for the SIM card and I have contacts stored inside.
When selecting a network automatically, it says that he has found nothing.
I would try to call my SIM card provider to see if anyone has had this problem with his phone.

Here are some screenshots of the configuration:

Any advice or recommendation?

Regards,

Hi, thanks for a nice issue report.

I would first recommend to disable SIM 2.

Then I would try disable PIN for SIM and try again.

If that wouldn’t help I would disable “4G calling (VoLTE)”.

Please do report back.

Thanks for your reply.

I’ve tried to disable SIM 2 and turn off the PIN for SIM. Nothing happened.
Then, I reboot the phone. Still nothing happened.

I’ve disabled 4G VoLTE and the SIM card logo on the home screen was plain white for 2 seconds. Then it was back off again. After that, I look to the top down menu, enabling mobile networks, selecting the SIM card (in fact, I can’t enable mobile networks, it is always saying that it is off even though I’ve enabled it a second ago).
It went white plain again and it showed that he was receiving some mobile networks as it was not full plain (1/4 plain). Now, it’s back grey with the lines.

I did nothing, then after 5 minutes, it’s back on. And now back off after almost 10 seconds on.

My mobile network provider is trying to send me configuration settings to see if it works. I will keep you posted on that.

Update:

I’ve made another reboot, nothing happened.

First, as you said, my mobile network provider wants me to disable the VoLTE, which is eventually not resolving the problem.

Hm, I suspect HW issues. I do hope I’m wrong.

Please search forum if anyone has the same network provider. If that is not the case then you should turn to ZenDesk. Good luck.

Update:

On the networks page, I can select TeleCoop. Then, I have the error message: “Problem with connection”.

Here is a screenshot:

Now, it’s back off again when I disable the automatic searching. I can’t select any network again right now.

Thanks again for your help.
Crap, you really think it is?
I will try to reboot and change the SIM card slot too with different configs.

I think that there is a conflict with my Android phone actually. I will try to look on how to purge the sim settings and memory on this phone.

I have also emailed my mobile network providers with the problem. I will keep you updated.

I’m not sure at all. I just suspect.

But also out of ideas.

Hello, I would also check if the APN settings were correctly applied after the automatic network search. Please activate manual search and compare them with the APN settings from the internet. You can find the provider’s APN settings online…

Thanks, I will try that.
The only thing is that the mobile networks is not available for me.

Update:

Now, I’ve tried a different approach. I’ve restarted the WLAN and the mobile networks with the utilities. I’ve tap again on the mobile networks circle from the top down menu.
Currently, I am waiting on the Select internet connection page. It says: “Connecting”.

And actually, I’m wrong. I can modify the APN and set the username and password for the data as you said @Heinz63 .
I’ve done that and I reboot again the mobile networks with utilities. I am now still waiting at the Connecting page.

Waiting for results of the change made.

While waiting, I found this topic which was the closest from what I am experiencing right now:

Hey @Elederly_87_90 ,

Would you be able to try reflashing the device with these instructions?

Thanks,
Raine from Jolla

Hi @rainemak,

Thanks for your reply. Okay, I will try that tonight.
Btw, I saw some other Topics about the 5.0.0.76 build which was causing problems. I’m currently running on 72.

Later today, the phone was showing 3G, but I wasn’t able to do anything like calling or texting has it went away very fast. I had the same errors has previously.

Regards

I hope you do realise that Early Access is for a brave and experienced users. As things can go wrong.

Anyway, I have to try things in order to learn X)

We sorted out those issues regarding 2.5G ↔ 3G/4G → No, issues on that matter in the 5.0.0.76 release thread.

Okay, no worries.
By the way, it looks like that I’m stuck on the terminal to “ < waiting for any device >” when doing the last step for fastboot reboot.

What should I do?

Moreoever, is it normal that I only have two sparse super and two sparse user data when fastbooting?

I don’t understand the last part of your question but regarding the “unseen” device:
Are you on USB3? This is known to sometimes cause issues. Try, if you can, on an usb2 port, with a USB hub or with another cable, as some are just made for charging.

I’ve tried with different port on my PC and different cables as it a USB-C only computer. It’s still not working.

How do I check which USB port are made for on my PC?
Or, do you have any other advice?

Ouille, I have no experience with USB C for flashing.
Another PC? Or an used USB2 hub. But that would take some days to arrive… I’m afraid I’m drying here.

I looked on the specs of my computer and there is only USB 3.2 at minimum…
Moreover, I looked on the internet and it seems that you could override the version of your USB hardware with sudo or using the BIOS, which sound a bit strange.

The best solution for me is to test with another PC. I will attempt to flash the phone in one or two weeks. When I get there, I will keep you updated on the situation.
