DESCRIPTION:
Setting up an alarm before going to sleep, I expect it to be noisy on the morning. What happened is that the alarm did trigger, but without any sound. No vibration as well.
PRECONDITIONS:
Set up an alarm. Differences between when it works and when it did not are mainly that i restarted android support and network connectivity.
Observable difference is that vibrations did not work anymore. When vibrations works, alarms seems OK, when they do not, it fails (empirical guess).
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Set up an alarm
Put the phone in a mode where vibrations crashes (see other relevant bugs), I remember having killed ngfd but this is actually part of the solution (vibrations comes up again, and alarms seems to be fine again).
Wait for the alarm to trigger. It triggers correctly, but no sound comes up. It is also difficult to ackowledge it.
EXPECTED RESULT:
My phone wakes me up in the morning, so I’m not late for work. This is an important use case
ACTUAL RESULT:
My cat woke me up in the morning. I’m grateful I had a backup.
I’ve had this issue as well, over the past few days. One thing I’ve also noticed is that the alarm will be sounding silently, but if I dismiss it, it will sound again silently around 30 seconds later, despite the dismissal.
I started restarting before bed, that seems to solve the issue.
Restarting indeed works, as well as killing the ngfd process.
About the difficulty to dismiss the alarm, it’s also the case for calendar events: dismissing them from the full screen notification fails, but works from the notification area in the events screen.
For me, it seemed system sounds in general were silenced, this work around mentioned here seems to have fixed it for me (working ok for the last week or so):
Behavior is a bit different, though, acknowledging the alarm works fine. But it’s still silent. (I’m not completely sure it occurred, because it did even not show up as missed alarm). I also checked that it did not work with timers.
In case it’s relevant, the lag due to vibration seems to have been fixed (there is no longer a lag), but the phone still does not vibrate.
Out of the blue I’ve had this problem too. Twice the set alarm went off, but no vibration and just a tiny beep instead of the set melody.
At the same time, I’ve noticed that all the system sounds are no longer working properly, just this tiny beep.
Suddenly a basic alarm feature that I rely on so much has become wickedly unreliable.
Perhaps the tiny beep when a sound is supposed to be playing might be a clue to the problem.
, you are trying to calm me down. That’s OK, my anger is over, the phone has been working since that incident. I think Apple is no longer able to overlook its huge code base. Too many conditions that no one can see through.
Happened to me again yesterday, (no worry, backup still working). I think the initial problem has been fixed, the new one is more likely due to resource/memory shortage (already had that on my xa2).
Correction: not exactly the same problem. Yesterday, the alarm did not even trig. Closing some apps, setting a new alarm, it did. I was not clever enough to save the phone logs, sorry.
