A-GPS, EGNOS, quick and working position?

So,

As we get new, real Jolla phones, can we get the GPS now working?

For all my Sony stuff, it has been that wait 20 minutes, the you have the fix, which is probably not that perfect. Slow as hell.

We should have A-GPS (location assisted by the base stations), EGNOS (GPS/Galileo Signals corrected by atmospheric correction).

Are we going to have those in the new phone?

Look, I can even help, if Jolla is listening. Drop me a line.

You should try “Positioning Western Europe” or whatever region you prefer from official Jolla Store. This helps gps fix for long time in the past.

No it always sucked.
Did it work for you?

No A-Gps and indoors I already get a fix without waiting that long (approx 2-5min. outdoors where I actually need gps its much faster), so maybe/probably hardware (and/or port) related?
Signal/Coverage seems also ok

Dont install any of the agps packages they are all useless

OK cool - but this has to be part of the phone.

With google and a-gps is seconds.

Do you know EGNOS? it is free stream from ESA.

No never heard of egnos until now

No shit. EGNOS is a like US WAAS, it sends atmospheric corrections to GPS/Galileo.
http://www.egnos-pro.esa.int/ something like that. But its open source, and it makes accuracy to a centimeter.

You don’t need satellite signal, you get factors from ESA.

I have this use case, I was in Italy, and it took 25 min to lock to a position.
That is ridiculous. If Jolla wants to be a proper mobile, it has to be 15 s.

May I ask which Sony phone you have?
Also, working agps would be nice so you would get gps fix way faster. (but it seems something else is also not working right)
And yes if you really have to wait this long for gps fix, its ridiculous

I have the Xperia 10 III.

I think we should have a new sw project to fix this.

AGPS is properly supported by geoclue-hybris. You probably want to search the forum for keywords gps.conf and suplpatcher.

It does not work in the Xpreria 10-iii.
Takes 20 minutes to take position.

..this is functionality that must work proper out of the box.

I agree that you should work on that! Maybe start with those hints to existing projects you got so far. But please find less assuming phrasing; (fast) GPS is not crucial to everybody.

I agree, not everybody, but almost certainly it is to the vast majority of mobile phone users

I need a maximum of two minutes with my 10 III. Are you sure your hardware is OK?

I go out, then switch on GPS, start GPSinfo plus OSMScout or Here or Bltzer.de and I’m there in two minutes.

GPS setting is exclusive device mode, GPS only.

10 III, 5.0.0.72, no patches, no tricks

It might take few minutes more the first time leaving a plane in another country.

Same here, just works on 10 iii.

Jolla C2, 5.0.0.72, in the bus, in Finland, from scratch (GPS on, GPS Info started). It takes 4 minutes 4 seconds when Gps position is functioning .

And I worked as expected. Tonight I landed in Barcelona and after the -sadly enough well known- roaming reboot after landing (SIM “lost”) everything worked just fine. 4G, no VOLTE though, GPS after a 2 or three minutes wait and Navigation with HereWego went just fine.
