Just a guess. Updating via UI was not smooth. In particular a message about harbor-storeman that I recklessly uninstalled . The update via UI completed without any particular message. After reboot, the version displayed was indeed 4.4.0.58. But no longer way to use phone calls.
Several posts on this forum (including SFOS version 4.4.0.58 without upgrade - #10 by DrDweeb and [solved] Xperia X 4.3.0.15, upgrade to 4.4.0.58 failed ) reported issues with using various apps and attempts to resolve partial updates, either using the ssu tool or sfos-upgrade.
Using the latter downloaded the latest versions of a whole set of rpm packages, which seems to indicate that the GUI update was partial.
