3.5mm jack on new Jolla Phone

I bought this today. Working perfectly.

Cool, thanks for the tip.
It would be nice to have a back cover or a protective case to protect it and keep it in place.
Without protection, I’m afraid the USB port won’t last very long (with me, at least).

P.S. For 229,5€, it is surely golden plated and very HI-FI!

@ric9k
229.00 NOK (Norske kroner) = 20,85 €
Not expensive.

Sorry I was (trying to be) kidding
But more seriously, I still don’t get something:
This USB-C port is outputing analog and digital signal at the same time? Or auto-switching, depending of what is plugged?

I can use the 3.5mm jack to listen audio and charge simultaneously. Tested on Jolla Phone (2026) with protective case.

There is a dedicated thread for this topic, already: USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapters known to work with Sailfish OS

Any news on the status of a possible TOH?

Analog output must be provided by phone, and jolla does not support it even there is some kind of DAC inside for earspeaker/loudspeaker the quality may not be fine for headphones, so from my point of view using hifi DAC usb-c->Jack is finnaly almost same, you just plug it on headphones/aux-in cable only once for the first time and then connecting only usb-c to the phone, so it is same operation, instead plugging Jack, you plugging usbc …

I’m not 100% sure on the “Jolla does not support it“ part. From another thread:

And:

A USB-to-3.5mm adapter with a built-in DAC for just 2-3$? Really? For 12€, yes, but just 2-3$?

I might be wrong though. :person_shrugging:

I see several on Amazon for $/€ 6-7. And also 2 for $/€ 8. And those are free shipping with Prime, so $/€ 2-3 under other circumstances sounds very likely. This makes analog mode of the USB-C quite obsolete.

Please forgive me for replying to this message instead of the previous one. I hope I didn’t miss any message but sadly no USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter can solve this problem. Because it’s technically inferior. Jack is kind of perfect solution. Simple, quite robust, can be turned 360 degrees, can be of course waterproof and it’s a standard. All audio equipment has it so it’s super easy to connect anything. Doesn’t require anything, just works.
USB-C connection itself is very fragile, I can put dollars against peanuts that usb-c will die much earlier if you’d use such adapter and try to keep phone inside your trousers. With jack that’s not a problem.

So suggestion to use such adapter should be considered more like a joke as the only point why phones doesn’t have it are money! It was Apple who did it first at the same time they released their bt headphones! Exactly same happened with microsd card so users are forced to pay for cloud.

Now also irda is gone - but not from Chinese phones! Led notification is also gone now because of? Yes you got it - money!

It’s always like this. And no, saying “there’s no space in phone” is a pure lie. It’s only matter of design. Nowadays phones are way bigger and have less features than the older ones which were even equipped with heart sensors not to mention proper xenon flash instead of weak led.

When I worked support for Apple many years back, one of the main reasons for warranty returns and service was headphone ports that had worn out or had the jack broken off and stuck in there, or they had dust and fluff in the headphone port etc.
I think that, rather than letting headphone ports eat a little into their enormous mark-ups, they decided to flog bluetooth headphones to make even more money and to brainwash people into thinking that it was somehow better to have to charge your headphones before you use them.

Yes i also have 3€ USB-C to Jack, but support only 16bit up to 48k what technically should be fine as the phone pulse audio is set to same, but it is only first part on conversion digital infirmation to analog signal. I can hear difference between this cheap and more expensive dacs.

Yes i agree with you. i was upset too when discovered that Jolla will not have Jack
but finally after few weeks of using DAC in the car it is same to me i just plug some connector and no need to rotate with connector as the 1.5m cable is flexible enought to allow me rotate with phone
Or when listening from headphones i usualy do nothing else so again not any isue with dac

i agree that pushing phone of this size into slim pocked would be bad for attached usb dac and for inside connector too but would not be perfect even for regular jack.

By the way, @lolek: What nonsense! You, too can have a HiLight (which is clearly superior to any other kind of status LED - especially since it’s at the back of the device) in a new Google Pixel 11 for only a thousand dollars upwards!

So then it goes against the “put it screen down for silent mode”? They thought about anything!

so it’s another con of the jolla phone - it’s just to big!

The phone is not too big. It’s maybe too big for YOU, but for me it fits perfectly. I’d even like it to be a little bit bigger, like the C2.

Why do so many people decide for others, whether something is good or bad, fits or doesn’t fit?

Please state it as YOUR OWN opinion, which applies for YOU.

Sorry, but I really don’t like generalization at all, while expressing an opinion in a differentiated way would be so easy.

yes it’s to big even for you except you’re an alien with enormous hand, are you?

Sorry but in the past there was an article explaining why it’s impossible to properly hold and use a phone that’s bigger than 5”.

So when you say “it’s not big for you” it just means “you’re ok with it being to big and you got used to that”. And that’s fine, but please don’t try to twist it back saying “it’s not to big” when it’s of a frying pane size.

Not too big in my opinion…period…my opinion
