I do not see in which way these technologies were “too old”. According to Sony Open Devices program, Xperia X could be upgraded up to Kernel 4.9/Android 9, which was up to date when new “Alien Dalvik” was rolled out for XA2. Of course, it was not done out of spite. But it’s about priorities: instead of making a new adaptation of the older device which majority of users had at the time, the decision was to make an adaptation for a new device. Which basically meant “if you want a current Android compatibility, you need to buy a new phone and a new license just two years after you spent on previous Sailfish phone”. Oh, of course people were not salty, why would they have been.
That’s exactly the point: FP2 was still available at the time of XA2 launch, and even longer that that, so re-porting would have been justified.
