Will the Jolla Phone 2026 support USB DisplayPort Alt Mode?

Hi, will the Jolla Phone 2026 support USB DisplayPort Alt Mode? I think this is a very important feature for Linux on mobile, would I say a must-have.

No video out from the device as it has been stated.

Where was it confirmed? I haven’t seen such a statement :face_with_monocle:

Its in the latest announcement.

Can you give a reference to that?

No it won’t, it was literally stated in the latest update

Do you mean this?

USB-C video out. Fitting this in is unlikely for now.

It says “unlikely”, which is not absolute. I want a clear confirmation by Jolla for this

Its as clear as it gets that you won’t get video out.

Umm, unlikely isn’t the same as simple no. I think that wording is for a reason, hope to it become true.

Jolla and wording have a strange relationship with its ups and downs.
This is the info that we have and there are many things that are unanswered still.

If you think that unlikely here means probably, then I suggest you wait for the full specs announcement since they have to do that soon before they ask for the rest of the money from backers.

I know and that’s why I’m trying to ask Jolla to answer this clearly. My pre-order for 3 units and many other Linux users depends on this to be honest. Without this, there are devices on the market like Fairphone 6, what advantage does the Jolla Phone give over it without this? The pogo pins?

You don’t have anything to worry about if you already preordered. You will be informed before the final payment is requested from you.

Yeah, but I can be curious about this anyway…

I would say, the fact that you don’t have google and the google ecosystem, to start with…

Umm, you can install Fairphone or Shiftphone with postmarketOS or degoogled Android distribution.

PMOS isn’t as fine-tuned and daily drivable. Android forks are just android forks. So the selling point is more of daily drivable linux phone, which is independent and not android fork.

But to the topic, my understanding is that this would require some serious software development. Next week is community meeting organized by Jolla. Community meetings are best place to get direct answer from Jolla. I read the unlikely so that it might come up with future software updates, but isn’t currently in active development.

Let’s make it clear then: No, it won’t.

I also want USB video output. Now AR glasses are very comfortable to use, but the mobile phone should support USB video output function

It would be good if the phone has prepared HW for that and SW support can be added later.

You are being too loose and too optimistic with the meaning of the word “unlikely” in general.

In particular, when Jolla says something is unlikely, it means not only that it is absolutely guaranteed to not happen, but it also means they don’t care about that thing, are not working on it, and will not be working on it any time soon (many MANY years), if ever.
