It is possible to flash the (any) phone with a computer, but it is a lot more cumbersome.
It doesn’t really anwer the question WHY there is no factory reset and recovery mode either.
Factory reset is in the guides and manuals of earlier editions, but missing on my C2.
Recovery mode too, one can boot to it, but it doesn’t work.
When I restart the device with the power button+volume up, it restarts and tells me to press volume down for recovery mode. When I do that, it says “Booting to recovery!”, but the phone just continues booting to SailOS, as usual.
@filip.k Yes, you repeated exactly what was stated.
This is a Feature Request thread, and I would like to see those features return to the Jolla phone. I could imagine other users of the Jolla C2 might as well.
Hi there, the shop’s URL has changed to commerce.jolla.com and there is no more ‘free trial’ available for download.
Furthermore, the privacy oriented company is demanding a phone number instead of just sending the 2FA code to your e-mail adress and they are now using shopify, which isn’t exactly a privacy oriented shop…
I didn’t find any free trial either…
Regarding Shopify, you can search for with the forum’s search tool. I believe there were some discussions and answers about that and cookies.
I made a test account today.
My phone number was not asked.
At which stage of the process have you been asked for a phone number?
In my opinion the recovery mode is a serious security risk. It enables an attacker with physical access to the phone to exfiltrate a copy of the /home partition to the SD card and attack the encryption conveniently on another computer. I’m prefer it not be supported or if there is any way to de-activate the mode.
That’s correct, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work, if you don’t have an image stored somewhere on the phone and it lacks any hints to where to save such an image
But anyway, I succeeded in downloading the image(s) and installing it via fastboot
