It has been like this for a days now. And it is not clear where it is coming from or how to resolve.
Ok, the symptoms you described sounded very familiar and for me waiting a day and restarting the app did the trick. I hope a solution will soon be found for your case as well.
Do you have the âPrefer phone contact namesâ or similar setting on? Turn that off and that fixed it for me
Indeed it does resolve the issue. Thanks.
Hi!
Strange issue⌠Messages from the kids did not show up in the family chat anymore. I resetted the identities & sessions as outlined above and do now receive their individual messages again. It also works in the âDad & kidsâ chat. But the family chat in question - no show. @rubdos should I share the log file lines with you?
@madomac are you saying that new messages stopped coming in, or that old messages had disappeared as well?
Have to ask as I donât speak code, if I guess correctly this one here feat: gallery view (!807) ¡ Merge requests ¡ Whisperfish / Whisperfish - Signal on Sailfish OS ¡ GitLab makes it possible to see all pictures one receives in Whisperfish?! IIRC it used to be that one could see only the first 5 pictures or so.
Anyway, A LOT of MR accepted recently, thank you for your hard work!
Hard to say - last message from one of the two contacts is from 2026-07-25, so there are old messages in the group chat. I cannot say for sure when new messages stopped coming in, as the SailfishOS phone is currently just a âtest muleâ while I wait for my JP26. I definitely noticed yesterday. Let me know if I can be of any help.
I canât use Whisperfish on my new Jolla Phone (2026) because of this:
Hopefully the official release comes soon, because Iâm not into experimental use. Until then, Iâll have to use the Android app. ![]()
With the main branch build I would imagine that you can get WF to work
Good eye, indeed. And it works too! I recently got some people sending me many many pics, so I had an actual need for it ![]()
Indeed. Itâs not that much of an experimental build. The past ~2 years or so, the main branch has been quite a stable thing. But @fingus is right, we need to push another release.
There have sadly been some cases of corrupting sessions for me too, and I canât really pinpoint them. Iâve been trying to stabilize some parts of the code which I know are prone to crashes, but I didnât see any really certain bugs.
So, unlink, clear everything and link again?
It seems I chose the wrong wording, which led to a misunderstanding. My intention was not to say that whisperfish-code is per se unstable or experimental. What I meant is that I wouldnât use an in-between version that includes new fixes considered beta until you release an official version thatâs been tested by you and the beta testers.
I was a bit short on words too. You may assume that most of the time, both @direc85 and I are running whatever is on main + a bunch of other patches and experiments, and that itâs continuously being tested, and that we generally donât merge something to main if we donât think itâs at least rather safe. And for anything but trivial patches, both @direc85 and I have read the patch and usually also both tested it. But I get it; itâs a 50kLOC project, so tested releases are important ![]()
Item [SailfishOS] "Forward message" option (#335) ¡ Issues ¡ Whisperfish / Whisperfish - Signal on Sailfish OS ¡ GitLab is labeled as easy by difficulty (forwarding) and as good first issue. My understanding is that there is already the UI elements in place, someone would just need to finish it. I would do that but canât really without vibe coding and I would like to keep WF vibe coding free in these regards. If there is some capable dev thinking what to do, this would be nice thing to have ![]()
We should start doing âgood first issueâ labels as well, but I think this one would apply ![]()
I donât generally mind people using agents for coding, but things that are âgood first issuesâ would probably get an AI ban from me, specifically. Thatâd be my definition of a âgood first issueâ: nothing urgent, good to learn about Whisperfishâ architectureâŚ
100% understand and I think good rule!
What I have previously seen is that people have reported this and then there has been a new release. Is it like that again or could I be doing something wrong?
You cannot link with the Whisperfish version currently available from OpenRepos. I manually installed https://gitlab.com/whisperfish/whisperfish/-/package_files/330525992/download today and was able to link Whisperfish as a secondary device.
