For this, you can try to reset the session with yourself. With debug mode enabled in settings: in “Note To Self”, swipe to the profile, and pull down to “reset secure session”.

Thanks, I tried that. I can send “notes” to each other device (Whisperfish and Signal Desktop), but the problem with communicating with others still persists. Also, since the “reset secure session” there is an arrow on my profile picture on Whisperfish.
So note-to-self works in both directions, but you don’t see your own messages you send to your peers, is that it? Is it in groups only, or also in direct messages?
Correct, note to self works both ways (but only one check mark is displayed on Whisperfish, while two check marks are displayed on Signal Desktop).
My own messages (from Signal Desktop) do not appear in direct messages or groups.
Did you try force quit Whisperfish through settings? I saw something similar last week and force quit and restart Whisperfish resolved the issue for me.

Closing Whisperfish via the settings or restarting the entire device (both multiple times) did not change anything for me.
Signal rolled out a change that will break Whisperfish for practically everyone, patch in progress, expect a release today!

Then I’m not sure what’s happening here; it would be good if you could provide some logs after beta 39 gets out! There are a bunch more bugfixes in there, so might be it got fixed by accident already.

@Oldergod did Whisperfish straight out crash on messages from your Signal Desktop? If so, I’ve found the issue, and it’s indeed an incompatibility with SD8.0.0. A nasty one to fix, though.

I’m not sure I understand the question correctly. There is no crash. Messages from Signal Desktop are not displayed in Whisperfish, and nothing appears on the linked devices either.
My current workaround is to send (long) messages from Signal Desktop to Whisperfish via note to self and then send them from there. The message then appears on both apps.
@Oldergod it still sounds suspiciously close to the problem I encountered when upgraded to 8.0.0, so I’m quite sure that feat: bump libsignal-service, ACI binary OTW format (!747) · Merge requests · Whisperfish / Whisperfish - Signal on Sailfish OS · GitLab will fix it!

- Additional sections per month in session view (improves usability for people with too many contacts)
- Message sectioning now in local time zone (improves usability for people away from UTC)
- A bunch of protocol upgrade, fixing various crashes and potential crashes
- Some logging verbosity clean-ups
Meanwhile, we have some cool upstream work for username and phone number contact discovery. There’s some high probability that the next version of WF will include username and username-link (QR code) contact discovery! 
Phone number based contact discovery is still a bit more involved, but it’s mostly fighting build systems and linkers at this point.

Oh I miss Whisperfish dearly because I’ve been stranded on a FP6 with /e/OS… 
As soon as I get the Jolla 2 on my hands I’ll come immediately back whispering with fishes

After updating to beta.39, it works again - Messages from Signal Desktop appear on Whisperfish. Thank you!
I still don’t see any linked devices on Whisperfish, but I can live with that.
