Okay thanks, now it is clear for me too
Since SFOS 5.0.0.55, my Whisperfish cannot receive messages anymore. Whisperfish is set up as a primary device on the Xperia 10 ii.
@best-test-400 has reported a similar bug: “Updated Sony Xperia 10 II to Tampella 5.0.0.55 → Whisperfish can send messages but does not receive them any more, no matter which internet data option is selected.”
@best-test-400 made an issue on Gitlab too, but reinstalled the whole phone, so we can’t debug it anymore.
Any chance you can try the same? Run harbour-whisperfish --verbose
from CLI, and see whether it gives some interesting output?
I also have the same problem
I created issue #734 for this on the Gitlab.
I’m a newbie there so I hope the writings and stuff makes sense there
I want to say greetings for all the Whisperfish users and welcome all the new comers to the forum.
Whisperfish beta.34
Contains two mitigations for vulnerabilities, discovered by @valldrac. Vulnerabilities will be listed as CVE-2025-24904
and CVE-2025-24903
, and could practically bypass end-to-end encryption, which means that a malicious actor could, theoretically, impersonate one of your contacts. We have no knowledge of exploits in the wild.
Changes
- Fixes for two impersonation vulnerabilities
- Preliminary parsing and linking of
geo:
-urls - Fixes for linking and registration
Updated thank you very much, working fine!
Linking did work for me
Thanks !!!
I don’t know whether the issue that @lumen mentions (gitlab #734) is the same what I experience, but: my primary device is an Xperia 10 III with AppSupport (official Signal client). WF on the Fairphone 5 is linked as secondary. Now, whenever I send a message with my secondary device, it never gets marked as read in the primary client, although recipients have read and answered my message. If I send messages with the official client, they become marked as read, if the recipient reads them.
If the issue is already mentioned in this epic thread, I am sorry for double-posting
My guess is that we experience exactly the same thing
Interesting article about phishing attacks on Signal:
I noticed one more strange thing: I also have the Signal Desktop App running on my Debian-Laptop. When I receive a message and the chat is already open on my Laptop, the message is never delivered to my Whisperfish secondary device.
Is it a group chat? Does the message arrive from the same sender in the same chat when Signal Desktop is closed?
It is a chat only 1:1, and yes, the messages before and after the message in question arrived at my WF. Only the one that was sent while I had the chat open in Signal desktop is missing.
Hi Rubdos, at first, many thanks for this fantastic app! With the C2 I decided to get rid of the Signal Android App. So I registered Whisperfish on the C2 as primary device. Everything works as expected, but I have one question:
My profile picture is not shown in my profile and contacts I chat directly with, do not see my picture. But in groups I can see my picture. Is there anything I can do, that my existing profile picture is available for all again?
Btw.: This is only a nice-to-have
Dont get rid of android.
There are every now and then weeks when something breaks due to signal api changes
Yes, it is better to have a backup. If you switch of the Notifications for the Android App it doesn’t disturb
Ok, I tried this on my old XA2, but Signal always notified me at least 2 or 3 times a day. Very annoying, but ok, I try it again.
How did you set your profile picture? The only way I know, is to have a linked device (e.g. Signal Desktop) to set the picture. Note that your registration has been nullified since you registered Whisperfish as primary, so you started with a fresh account.
EDIT: Hmm, does Whisperfish implement uploading profile pictures? I vaguely recall that possibly @direc85 implemented that at some point. :'-)
