I’m trying to open the WhatsApp app downloaded from the Aurora Store and it gets stuck when I verify the number. I get the missed call, but WhatsApp doesn’t detect it. I get the SMS with the code, but when I enter it, WhatsApp crashes and closes (apparently also AAS stop working). The automatic call doesn’t work either.
I want to transfer my chats from an iPhone and I need to complete this step, but there’s no way to get past it. Has this happened to anyone else? I must be missing something, as I’m quite new to SailfishOS.

WA setup did not go nicely for me either. It did not detect call. It offered other options of identification, I requested email. When received, I inserted given 6 digit code to WA. It also sent SMS with 6 digit code, which I inserted. If I recall correctly WA then got stuck while “connecting” to something. I waited a while and then closed WA. When I started it again, it did not complain anything and atleast messages are working.
I did not have earlier WA account, so this was “fresh install”. WA is from Aurora.
So it worked spontaneously well after starting it again? I get the same issue (not detecting the call, the code get stuck in connecting, sometimes the app crashes…) but when I start it again it is still on the “verify your number” step and I cannot move forward.
I managed to enter the code sent by SMS (did exactly the same steps as before) and this time for no apparent reason worked! BUT I lost all chat history since it did not allowed me to transfer chats from the old iphone. Official whatsapp website say you must verify your phone number in the new phone before starting the chat transfer, and so I did, but then the old device got signed off automatically and now there is no way to get in and do the transfer, so apparently everything is lost.
The chats are at least still on the old device, if you can sign in again on that device you’ll be able to see them again. But of course, you’ll then get signed out on the new device again.
When I could not verify my number I tried to link whatsapp in the Jolla Phone 2026 (as a secondary device) and it worked very well, so it is possible.
Thanks everyone, I may try to recover the chat history from the old device, but now everything works so Im afraid to start over!
As a lot of my contact depend on WA I also needed a solution for this but I want to stay away as much as possible from AAS so I found in Openrepos WA app which I could link to my WA on an old phone. It has a nice integration with SfOS and you can let run a daemon on the background for notification…
