VoLTE support tinkering

jollas zendesk sailfish for x device models shows android 11 as base for Xperia 10 II. Does this mean we have higher chances VoLTE will work?

Did jolla give an official statement on VoLTE in general at anytime?

They once had VoLTE mentioned on the Sailfish 3 page shortly before/after SFOS 3.0 was released but then they silently dropped it after a while.

I never got VoLTE working on AOSP either. With the original Android it worked flawless but as soon as i flashed AOSP, i never got VoLTE working again.

AT&T said that I’m running VoLTE

So your phone doesn’t drop to 3G or 2G while making or receiving calls, but stays on 4G?

:+1: Probably the easiest way to check if on VoLTE or not.

It says it’s dropping to 3G, but what’s odd is that AT&T said that I’m running 4G (while not LTE)…

I think it had umts…

Wi-Fi calling is working…

I would not necessarily trust what AT&T are saying.
It may just mean your sim card is somehow opted-in for VoLTE but your phone may still fall back to 3G for the actual calls.
Also wifi calling means you should be able to receive/make calls when there is no cell signal at all (e.g. in flight mode).

How did you set up wifi calling?

Mint Mobile, use their app, then enable Wi-Fi calling in the app… It works somehow, even if AT&T is set at the main SIM… I turned off the mobile data, and was on Wi-Fi too… Odd, but good.

I’ll try calling on Wi-Fi in Airplane Mode… One moment.

SimScout is listing the AT&T SIM and the Mint Mobile SIM. The AT&T SIM is listed as UMTS under the Technology section… The Mint Mobile SIM is listed as GSM… I do not have mobile data on, just Wi-Fi… I get a warning from Sailfish IF Airplane Mode is on when a call is attempted (obviously I turn on Wi-Fi after the fact).

Can’t login to Mint Mobile without being on Mint. Was curious for just AT&T.

On what device you got Wi-Fi calling to work, Xperia 10?

I got it to work on the Xperia 10 Plus running Kvarkin…

Sony’s AOSP 8.1 images doesn’t seam to have VoLTE binaries. Like in AOSP 9 and AOSP 10 images. I have Xperia XA2 and that device Sailfish uses AOSP 8.1 so I think that I have no luck to get VoLTE working.

In the Android settings with a Mint Mobile SIM, I found a solution (partially)… Settings > Network & Internet > T-Mobile-US > select Advanced > toggle on the options “MMS messages” and “Data during calls”. And in the Mint Mobile app, turn on Wi-Fi Calling. These two flags are only available if the Mint Mobile SIM is not being used as the data SIM… And the “Data during calls” flag is unavailable for the AT&T SIM…

I also have my AT&T SIM and Mint Mobile SIM set to “Ask Every Time” on which to use for data and calls in both the Settings app of AlienDalvik and Settings in SailfishOS. I’m now running SailfishOS 4.1 Kvarken… I also have the Mint Mobile SIM in the second SIM Slot, and the AT&T one in the first SIM slot.
