Why? To collect a log you do need at least one tower cell id.

Does anybody know how to âpoisonâ standard gps service with arbitrary coordinates? The wifi positioning above relies on apple services so there is 0 (literally ZERO) chance jolla incorporates it officially, yet, it works and apple servers get almost zero information about the guy who queried them, no appleID is sent/needed, you just send them MACs and get coords back, the privacy advocates can shout at us as hard as they want, but I would still like a way to inject the coords we get from apple for initial fix to get 3 sec gps fix even in buildings as an option, is there a way to cheat(or maybe âhelpâ) sfos gps with coords like those? (and for apple haters, there are also google servers that provide same service afaik, so choose your poison, just it has to be community provided one donât bother jolla with such ask)
Edit: and yeah this works on your HP and Dell laptop, apple gets thousands of these per second, so you could if worried about them tracking you by IP send multiple requests with x ones with predefined MACs and hide your real one inbetween⌠Apple really doesnât give a f about your jollaâs position, but itâs still optional, so better stay away, still would be a great option for less paranoid folks
Edit2: or someone could offer a proxy like graphene does for agps queries until apple realizes itâs offering service to competitors and blocks it
Ignoring the X-Y problem here, sounds like you could write a GeoClue plugin to use this service.

None of these are about using their service for location, and yeah, who knew if your AP is announcing your MAC/BSSID publicly it will end up noticed by iphones too, if youâre worried about it and paranoid just randomize MAC and AP name, but thatâs irrelevant to the âgetting quick location fix on phoneâ
soooo, despite what i was saying before, i later discovered that in my device (as of now) beacondb does not help at all, sigh, so i decided to remover everything and reinstall the original mls package, waiting for 5.1
is the command in the quoted message enough for reinstalling the original service?should i delete also the gps_extra.ini file?
Iâm very interested to hear experiences from others now as 5.1 is out. Are other able to get approximate location in sfos/android apps inside building? Are you getting location fix quicker? All experiences are interesting

I get a fix like 2 km from me, in about 1 or 2 seconds with beacondb, even inside the house
Not 100% but iâm sure this will greatly help until real location with hw positioning is found

Can I ask, what device and what app are you testing?
i was trying with camera (with geotagging) and location sharing on fernschreiber
unfortunately anyway, i tried with herewego (since pure maps is not yet updated for 5.1) and noticed that it didnât help me at all, which is weird, since other apps are able to get the location very quickly
anyway i had other problems, so i decided to flash back 5.0âŚ

I think BeaconDB is only going to be good as a âlocation assisterâ if there is cell/wifi/Bluetooth data in their database for the area in which you are trying to get a gps lock. If there is no data its likely to make little difference to first fix times.
I had the exact same situation, a first fix some 20km away from where I was and then a three minute wait until I got a proper satellite lock (on an X10 iii).
So probably little or no BeaconDB data for where I live. Perhaps not surprising as not many will be using this solution - most will be IOS or Android proprietary.
I then downloaded an Android app called âNeoStumblerâ which sniffs out WLANs, Bluetooth beacons and Cell Tower locations. By setting the app endpoint to âBeaconDBâ you can upload the locations found to the BeaconDB database.
It didnât find any WLANs or Cell Towers (maybe an issue in how Android is implemented/abstracted in AppSupport), but it did find about 30 non-moving Bluetooth beacons (it filters out beacons that move).
After uploading these to BeaconDB, two hours later my phone got an immediate lock in under 5 seconds indoors and with an accuracy of about 10m.
I think I read that some Jolla bod is working on a native âstumblerâ app, which hopefully would work with cell towers and WLANs, so this will make things even better.

which is weird cause i already submitted beacons for most of my area, and my district tooâŚ
anyway on the contrary iâm only able to find cell towers and not wifi or bluetooth beacons
i flashed back 5.0 now but surely when 5.1 is out as stable and pure maps is available i will make some more testing
it would be nice to have the service integrated in pure maps, for having like a real time beacon collectionâŚ
