Unplayer is sadly broken and seems be not further developed. Last update was long ago, cut of the support for Alac files just a few weeks before that codec was finally implemented into SFOS by default, and playing files from sd card just works from folder, not from library…
unplayer (from openrepos) works fine on all my devices. Don’t remember though, if I had to opt out of sailjail.
Flowplayer is on chum and working to.
No, it is not.
There is a setting for that.
Broken was related to the Alac codec. You can play Alac files I’d you open them from folder, but they are not shown in the track list.
So I’d really like to see that “feature” of hiding Alac files removed again.
Unplayer uses gstreamer then can play alac format as well the only issue is that it shows only files with defined extensions. You can play alac files by changing their extensions or even better by making symlinks with extensions that are known as audio files i.e mp3, flac or to mp4 because in fact they are mp4 files.
Updated Unplayer with ALAC ext enabled.
Thanks, I’ll take a look later. Are you (@kan_ibal) the original developer or did you just change tgat in the repo?
ALAC can be “hidden” in e.g. .m4a files. These are recognized now?
I’m not sure what are asking about? An .m4a extension was always supported(displayed/recognized) by Unplayer.
Why is that particular player expecting to know my location?
What for?!
P.S. After editing its permissions via Sailjail, it does behave strangely, like refusing to save the default music folder path.
To know where you are listening to the music. I’m going to implement a function to limit usage of player in WC for user safety and health. Sitting on the toilet for too long is very unhealthy.
Thanks! I will now replace the not-so-up-to-date flowplayer to unplayer - which is way faster with a large music collection!
Only thing I miss is the possibility to search for covers online and store them in the music files…
Yes, the fastest of all I would say. This is the one of main reasons I use Unplayer. I would suggests MPD+SMPC as good player in this regard as well.
But it’s a new version and fork of Unplayer now. Will you maintain the app now? And according to the name the fork is based on the harbour version, not the storeman version (which has some mir features), right?
I have no idea what is the difference. Fork is done for licence purposes which requires providing a sources and this is the best way as long as original sources are moved to public archive and there is no way to push PR. Harbour is a common name and my intention is not to hijack the name as long as it is fully functional. This is done only to enable support for such exotic ext. as alac. I maintain apps I use so as long as I will be using it I will be maintain that.
I don’t have any ALAC files, just FLAC, OGG, and MP3. So i didn’t have any particular issues with the equeim version, which works great for me.
Your new version (or update?) on the OpenRepos page doesn’t list a license ![]()
Apparently, you don’t provide the source code for Harbour-Unplayer ![]()
Thanks in advance, in any case, for keeping this great app alive.
Love the app!
A nice edition would be to see the album artwork when in a list view as the text can sometimes be hard to read when you are trying to find a song
I have over 300 album covers in a folder named cache-media-art (and a .nomedia file in it) on my SD card, symlink ~/.cache/media-art/ and media-art subfolders in apps’ cache directories. It’s a good idea to make a tarball of the cache - at least one app deletes all but the Unplay covers when rebuilding the library.
FlowPlayer shows all of them (I added most of them with it so no wonder), other players (Jolla Media Player, Muuzik!, QuasarMX) most of them (special characters and extra info like ECLCD 1050 cause problems) but Unplayer shows about 3.
The FlowPlayer way is search from a net server - the only way to add a local file is to first add a wrong cover from the search results and overwrite it with my cover. Searching for Joe Jackson finds Michael Jackson’s dad.
The Unplayer way to add local files would be very good if
-
it used the existing file instead of copying it; both files are in media-art with different names
-
the file picker showed big or huge thumbnails like FileBrowser does
There is no need to list a licence at Openrepos, is there? What makes you think that should be. The package is all you need.
The main version is better for anyone that do not use alac files because is stable as rock. This is the only audio player that does not have any issues with mpris. I am testing my compilation against mainline mpris to see if it will have same issues as other audio players.
UnPlayer was under GPLv3 : Unplayer | OpenRepos.net — Community Repository System
I’m not sure that you can do a proprietary fork (or a new version) without the agreement of the first author and all the contributors. It’s just a question !
