Type 1 diabetic considering Jolla Phone , Dexcom G7 support?

Hello everyone,

I am considering purchasing the new Jolla Phone, but before making a decision I would like to know if anyone has experience using the Dexcom G7 app on Sailfish OS with Android App Support.

I am a Type 1 diabetic and I rely on Dexcom for continuous glucose monitoring, so compatibility with the Dexcom G7 app is extremely important for me.

Has anyone tested it?

I would be particularly interested to know:

  • Does the Dexcom G7 app install and run correctly?

  • Does it connect reliably to the sensor?

  • Are glucose readings updated in the background?

  • Do alerts and notifications work properly?

  • Would you trust it for everyday use?

Any feedback, experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome! Unfortunately I can’t test much, but at least the application can be downloaded from Aurora and I can get to login screen. But as I don’t have account or sensor, I can’t really test app functionalities

Quick question. Do you also use an insulin pump? Connected to the Dexcom?

Thank you very much for taking the time to test it.
It is good to know that the Dexcom G7 app can be installed and reaches the login screen.
My main concern is Bluetooth connectivity, since the G7 sensor communicates directly with the phone using Bluetooth Low Energy.
Do you know if Android App Support currently allows Android applications to use Bluetooth reliably, or if anyone in the community has successfully used a CGM device with Sailfish OS?

No, I do not use an insulin pump.

I use multiple daily injections and a Dexcom G7 sensor connected directly to my phone.

My main concern is whether the Dexcom G7 app can reliably communicate with the sensor via Bluetooth and provide glucose readings and alerts.

Bluetooth for AAS side was just launched for early access testing: AppSupport Bluetooth feedback thread

Maybe you can find some answer there. I have tried it with Oura ring and that works, but I don’t know if it uses BLE or what….

Thanks for clarifying. If I can find time I’ll see if Dexcom is open to a FOSS partner since they still accept proposals in Europe.

I’m a T1 diabetic as well, though I recently switched from the Tandem T-slim pump and dexcom G7 sensors to a MiniMed 780G pump and the accompanying sensors. Not because I wanted to, but because my diabetes nurse heavily urged me to.

Frankly, I’m rather annoyed at MiniMed.

  • The app refuses to work on devices with dev mode active.
  • The app refuses to work on many phones, regardless of dev mode.
  • The pump’s firmware cannot be updated through a computer, only the mobile app.
  • While a computer can be used to fetch historical data from the pump - in order to give the nurse access - it requires their own bluetooth dongle.

I mean, I would prefer that Tandem made their software for Linux, but at least they don’t require a locked-down phone.
