The Volla Quintus (algiz) thread

Could you maybe record when you make a port or when you maintain it and then upload it uncut to YouTube, so that you don’t have too much additional work, but we can learn from it and then maybe also make a port or take over maintenance of a port?

Is the start post still up to date? What does not working Headphones mean? Just cable or bluetooth as well? How is the state of the Hardware codecs and the Fingerprint. I guess Fingerprint wouldn’t be a showstopper for me.

Is there a chance that multiboot with SF will work. I guess this doesn’t depend at @piggz but maybe you have some mor insight.

HW codecs requires some upstream work to enable what android call ‘C2’ codecs. I think these are used in a few phones so it will happen… BT headphones work fine, just not the USB-C ones supplied

I have a Quintus with Ubuntu Touch preinstalled. Does flashing also work with this as described above?

yes, this should be fine

Grrrr… Seems to take a bit longer until my Quintus sees SF. Flashlite doesn’t work on my device. Not under Volla Os nor UT. I contacted the support.

Seems to be your hardware, on my Quintus flashlight works as expected under Volla OS.
I am also looking forward for SFOS (dual-booted) on Quintus…

Yeah, that’s what i’m hoping for as well. And yes, I think it is a hardware problem, otherwise it wouldn’t be a problem under UT as well.

With the latest update May 25 the Quintus now has the capability for multi-booting. Sailfish on this device would be a dream, any chances for a dual boot image of SFOS for the Quintus?

Ok I have now the third Volla Quintus. And the situation It is like that: There were some changes on the camera module. That’s the reason why the main camera and the flashlight are not working. So there has to be an update on the firmware to make them work. Now I’m unsure what that means.

@piggz can you please help.

I have ordered this device for running SF on it. I need the main camera.
If there is a new firmware needed, what does this mean for the SF port. Will the camera work or not. I need the camera. If it will not work I have no use for the Quintus and will send it back. If it means there is no problem or just some minor things you have to do and will change, then I will keep it and wait for the new firmware.

My fear is that there have to be some changes and you need a test device for making the camera work. That would probably mean, that there will be no working SF (with camera) on newer Quintus phones.

New vendor image isnt available yet. Ubuntu touch is also waiting. When available I can package it, just waiting on the volla-os side

That sounds fantastic! Then I can keep my Quintus and just have to wait a bit. As a Sailfish user from the start on, I have some expertise in waiting .

Cool, I am also waiting. Will the image be usable via dual-boot or will the Quintus need to be completely flashed and thetefore, erased?

Are there any news to this vendor image availability?

Flashed my Quintus with the latest SFOS: UB ports installer crashed half-way with flashing. Then device was only possible to fastboot. But from Debian Linux with shell and. /flash.sh the pricess finished eventually and SFOS installed. Boy, this is an amazing experience on that big bright screen and it is blazingly fast…
80% charging limit is currently not working and USB headphones or USB DAC. When I find time I will try something and report here what I find. Some things are different and come unexpected (e.g. Seaprint only installable via sideloading) but solvable so far. Looking forward to learning more after this promising start…

I flashed it as well in between Maybe a week ago. But flashed back again, I had as well some problems with installing over UBports installer. After installation, there were just a few Mbyte space on root left. I did not go deeper as the camera did not work, just like expected.

That is strange, in my Quintus device I see the storage as expected: I seem to have not this root partition problem and on home I copied yesterday my FLAC music collection of ~90 GB via FTP sync on the phones internal storage and have plenty of space left free.
The UB ports installer seems unreliable, I tried it only because I fiddled with Ubuntu before. The recommended way is anyway to flash via the shell.
And my camera works, at I scanned QR codes with it…

All cameras? How old is your quintus? Seems, like I should try it again.

Edit:
Tried it again, now with flash.sh unfortunately nothing has changed. After flashing there is just 21MB left on root and camera isn’t working.

Interesting, I will check tomorrow and report, my Quintus is out of reach today, since I am travelling today
