The Volla Quintus (algiz) thread

I have installed Sailfish on my Quintus and after a few days of use, here are some observations:

  • It’s very fast (compared to Vp22 or Jolla C2).
  • It’s very fast even with Waydroid running in the background.
  • Calls, data and SMS work
  • 5G works (After a few days of use, 5G suddenly drops to 2.5G and never comes back. It’s a known issue and hopefully will be fixed soon).
  • GPS works, even indoors next to a window
  • Camera works (even on Waydroid)
  • Automatic screen brightness doesn’t seem to work
  • No chance to test VoLTE at the moment, but it might work
  • Playing videos does not work on Waydroid

Does GPS work once wayland was started? It is not working on VP22 or Rephone until reboot.

If/when you get a chance to test this, please report your results. Thanks.

My GPS works even though Waydroid is turned on. On the Quintus as well as the Volla Phone 22.

Ok, so my GPS not working after waydroid was started might be fixable. I am still on 4.5. Maybe the soon coming update to 5.0 will change things.

Do you expect that your SFOS built will be dual-bootable in the upcoming Volla Update that will enable dual-boot for Quintus?

With getting Waydroid working did you use the waydroid-settings or waydroid-runner package, as i couldn’t get it working with the settings package.

Also were the instructions for Waydroid enough in the first post for you get it working?

I am using the waydroid-runner package.
Here are the steps I took:

  • From chum-gui install waydroid and waydroid-runner

  • Open a terminal and zypper in waydroid-gbinder-config-mainline

  • mkdir -p /userdata/system-data/etc/waydroid-extra/images

  • mkdir -p /etc/waydroid-extra/images

  • ln -s /userdata/etc/waydroid-extra /etc/waydroid-extra

  • zypper in wget
    images_url=https://sourceforge.net/projects/aleasto-lineageos/files/LineageOS%2020/waydroid_arm64

  • wget $images_url/system.img/download -O /etc/waydroid-extra/images/system.img

  • wget $images_url/vendor.img/download -O /etc/waydroid-extra/images/vendor.img

  • waydroid init -f

  • devel-su systemctl disable --now dnsmasq

  • Edit the gbinder config: vi /etc/gbinder.d/anbox-mainline.conf

[Protocol]
/dev/anbox-binder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-vndbinder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-hwbinder = hidl

[ServiceManager]
/dev/anbox-binder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-vndbinder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-hwbinder = hidl

  • Reboot

I can now confirm this: VoLTE works at least on the Finnish Elisa network.

The multiboot option is not yet available in Volla OS on the Quintus.
Can Volla OS be reflashed to the Quintus after trying the SFOS alpha built?
Without knowing that I can revert to the original state I wouldn’t be brave enough to try SFOS on the Quintus

Thanks for that, i followed what you did with both waydroid-runner and then waydroid-settings and they both spam this in the log when trying to start them respectively and nothing else happens

Failed to get service waydroidplatform, trying again

Also i saw you got VoLTE working, i installed the mtk ofono plugin as the option wasn’t in my settings, but enabling it just constantly flashes, even though VoLTE works fine in VollaOS with EE UK

There was a typo in my edit of the gbinder config.

Edit the gbinder config: vi /etc/gbinder.d/anbox-mainline.conf

[Protocol]
/dev/anbox-binder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-vndbinder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-hwbinder = hidl

[ServiceManager]
/dev/anbox-binder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-vndbinder = aidl3
/dev/anbox-hwbinder = hidl

And regarding VoLTE, did you install this package: ofono-binder-plugin-ext-mtk?

Thanks, i did a reflash and installing the ofono package again worked for VoLTE this time so thats working now.

I’ll give Waydroid another go with the fixed typo, thanks
