OT somewhat related to OT: Seems that first apps, Calendar and Calculator, have just recently reached the “100 000+” level - congratulations! (Most of the official apps still at “75 000+”)
I would prefer a MagSafe-compatible wireless charging function.
I agree that the J2 must work out of the box on both hardware and software side.
But as far as I got it the main decision is to integrate a port/connection for a possible TOH. I don’t think that they will do an other half directly themselves, that’s an offer to the community to create such. To my mind even the software implementation doesn’t need to be done with delivery as that’s not needed for normal usage - you can always develop the needed system components later as it’s just related to software, but adding hardware later is… impossible.
And right now I don’t think we’ll reach the 10.000 pre-orders…

It is possible that both are compatible. The time designing a mechanical attachment does not come from the same person who works on the browser.
Some attachments are easier than others and would not take much time, for example exposing connectors (e.g. USB, jack, SPI/I2C) or maybe a battery.
The TOH attachments that need complex firmware/software interaction (e.g. an e-ink screen) are those which compete with phone engineering time.
Honestly not limited to requiring TOH as it can be done without it with C-display out capability, but hear me out: Padfone type connection to keyboard and additional screen. Had the first Padfone and it honestly was insane how good it was even with the limitations of 2012 tech for my needs.
Just throwing this for world to see.
I am sure someone else has also expressed this interests. I personally think that I would like one that improves the camera controls with physical buttons and, maybe, a small grip (if it could be removable it would be even better, I saw a much more detailed comment from another user that would be great if done). The second one that I think would be interesting and popular is a Qi 2 compatible one, it would lead to a much improved wireless charging experience and also allow to use any magsafe compatible accessory.
Internal USB, even if it just USB2 might be much more convenient to “port” existing USB-connected devices, such as the LoRa-modules, to TOH-form factor and, perhaps the biggest advantage, use existing software for these USB-connected devices.
Given the trickle of orders to get to just over 7K, it does not seem that TOH is returning. Unless there is a big sale spike in the next 14 days. ![]()
Since the announcement has been made, I imagine it will still return in a simpler version, like the original Day 1 release.
I imagine only the more complex TOH won’t be offered.
Alternatively, the TOH will be released after 10,000 orders, after the pre-order deadline.
Let’s remain hopeful, even though the decision rests with Jolla. Not releasing any TOH, even the simplest ones, would mean losing pre-orders.
Of course, this is just an opinion. ![]()
I’m rooting against its return. This company has consistently proven to simply not be able to ship products and updates / fixes in a timely fashion. Stacking one more distraction product and its support on top of an already semi-broken core offer is likely to make things even worse for everything.
17 posts were split to a new topic: 3.5mm JACK on new Jolla Phone
CAN bus connectivity may be wise idea, every modern car user is then a possible JOLLA user (after good analyzing etc. softwares are developed to differet car brands)
Was just extended until end of February…
I’m not rooting for the TOH. I have never seen the use-case. There were some nice onces for J1, but I never got one myself. Jolla announced TOH to be back at 10K and users here jumped for joy, yet the progress in sales is not going to make it happen. I prefer a more polished OS then effort in TOH support.
To me honestly it hasn’t come of like Jolla would need to do so much to have the TOH enabled. That seems to me more of like hardware to me and then community can do most of the software side (or Jolla later on). Correct me if I have misunderstood
Hi, maybe I am way too late, but to me, the only thing I wish the phone needs is the wireless charging. Right now I am using a old IPhone XR, and my new car allow me to put it in a place under the infotainment system and it will charge without me the need to plug in. And this is something I appreciate a lot. I wish I will be able to get rid of my current phone and use the Jolla one instead.
Even if the phone doesn’t have and TOH can’t do it, you can easily DIY a wireless charging coil in the back cover.
Some of them are plug and play as well without any effort.
Random example:

I see, but for this exact model you sent, the usb port is used by the coil, and it’s not a pass through, so there is not possibility to use a usb cable without unplugging it. Not the best solution.
