I got my brand new C2 last week, and the setup went OK, but the camera only show a still picture that looks like the test picture from a TV station, that is there is a color bar, and in the right lower part, there is snow (white noise).
I have emailed sales, and made a support case but have not had any reply for a week, so I thought maybe someone here could help me ?
Thank you, the tests show that video playback failed, and video playback and vibration also failed, and the camera still shows the same picture, so I think i will return the phone, something is clearly not OK.
By any chance would you be able to try reflashing the device?
To be noted, that all data that you have in your device would be lost so better to take a backup / copy important content from the device before flashing.
I have another type of camera problem on the C2, and reflashing (twice) hasn’t helped.
First the camera worked sporadically, sometimes it worked fine, sometimes only the front camera (and the back cameras just showed a black screen), sometimes neither, and a reboot helped sometimes, sometimes not.
After a reflash the cameras do work, but without autofocus. None of the cameras react to touching for focus (the circle never appears), and the wide angle camera is permanently blurry. Reflashing for the second time didn’t help.
On C2 only Main-Camera have variable Focus, all other Lenses are fixed Focus. I have also sometimes black finder Screen when launching Camera. This disapper when you wait 10-20 seconds. I guess this is some kind of Initialisation-Problem or race-condition.
Blurryness could be grease on the Lens, clean it. People accidential touching the Lens and wondering often.
If camera doesn’t work at all there is also a possibility that due to some runtime failure it got blacklisted by gstreamer library. If that is the case removing file /home/defaultuser/.cache/gstreamer-1.0/registry.aarch64.bin and then starting camera app might help.
It’s really hard to figure out who is to blame since the hardware is the most horrible cheap thing Jolla could find to rebrand (so the quality control is horrible, as you would expect), and the software support for Sailfish phones is an afterthought for Jolla anyway. They make their money in the automotive sector.
I would suggest you return the phone to Jolla and see what they say.
Maybe they have some leftover stock of the C2 and they can replace it, if it’s a hardware issue.
