Streaming links for Jolla Phone Day1 are now available, join us live on July 8!

Not transcoding seems like the least resource-intensive option, thank you for also catering to people on low-bandwidth devices or paying for bytes transferred. Looking forward to the blog post!

Looks awesome.

This is supposed to be the “surprise TOH” (or surprise cover) for the ones who bougth the phone in the first batch, right?

Yes, it was handed out to people during the event yesterday but kept out of view from people following the video stream, not to spoil the surprise.

It is for batches 1-3, so for everyone who bought the first 10 000 or so phones.

Thanks so much for the stream!

Just one minor gripe: I’ve never used the official Peertube app (i installed it on my android TV box) before, so maybe i was doing something wrong, but i couldn’t find a way to watch the stream using it. I think the link was kept private, so it wasn’t listed on the Jolla account.

I ended up just watching on my phone, and it was excellent on there, i just thought it might have been easier to find it without having found the link somewhere.

Thanks. I need to check the app for how it handles unlisted live streams. But also suggest to make it public so other trusted platforms also see it. I assumed Jolla had a reason to use its relaying link only (stats?). I will ask, though.

Maybe to have a pretty url, one on their own domain and phone/day1-peertube-stream instead of w/kFQohTGZAB2oekoGGqgSEU. To some people, this might make the link look “more legit”.

Agree, it isn’t a European alternative to the American duopoly if they can’t deliver hundreds of thousands units a year.

I think it peaked at 700 simutaniously

I’m not sure the numbers shown by the client can be fully trusted, but I assume the server-side data @ljo gave would be reasonably accurate across all streams.

No I excluded that thought immediately looking at the toot since the explicit youtube link basically is of the same unprettyness then. I will give the answer to the question when and if I get one.

Well, at least the peertube link looks better than the yt one

“comfort-zone fault” running below NL ? … or could you normalize data per pop capita ?

Yes, population data is probably the easiest feature to get for category country. Comfort zone or not, close to 100M is a large population. Not sure what NL has to do with it, though, unless you mean the men’s soccer world cup?

Exactly like this, the promised special edition other half will be delivered for the Batch #1, #2 and #3 ie. for the first 10K pre-orderers.

I would have loved to watch the replay on Peertube, but the instance doesn’t offer automatic subtitles, so I had to settle for the YouTube version.

Also, for the live stream, it would have been nice to have a live comments plugin like on YouTube ( Introduction :: Peertube plugin livechat documentation )

But just providing a Peertube link is already brilliant! Thanks again for that!

Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate that. The reason we are not automatically subtitling / transcribing videos is that many videos already have subtitles, but without any indiciation there is one. And all still needs to be manually checked, and that is requiring substantial resources. We could add it for the replay specifically, but we started with adding the chapters since that felt more pressing for the larger crowd.

You can also enjoy the livechat for the next live stream event we host.

And for whoever wants to contribute a SRT subtitles file in any specific language, we will happily add it.

Hi there,

“gap” instead of “fault” would’ve probably caught it better
Despite the very encouraging attention given to jolla and SFOS-based digital life, I was refering to the unexpected, significantly lower ranging numbers for SE, ES, AT …
Would’ve expected more resonance from other Scandinavian countries indeed. FI at 2/3 pop of SE is showing up a 4-fold number of watchers compared to SE.
DK is feeling pretty well comfortable within the premises and implications of it’s daily employed digital ecosystems.
Maybe Greenlanders would be very delighted with a special TOH-“Greenland-edition” device to put a digital statement of independence  :ok_hand:

But before judging on this, data needs to be properly normalized per capita .
German bar might be cropped ? …

Haha, yes, unfortunately I increased the Finnish numbers. So I should try to recall the fractions from the Day1 on location people. Since many in the queue whatched the live stream. And potentially the sales numbers could be appriximated as well. Then we hopefully get some interesting normalised diagrams :bullseye: :

No, there is no Geman cropping going on, since I zoomed the image to cover its full bar lenght and thus Portugal got below the lower edge with the countries in lower part. Let us see what the winners of the normalisation are.
