Good evening everyone,
I would like to have more opinions regarding the installation of Sailfish on Xperia 10 iii.
I’ve downloaded from my account Sailfish OS 5.0.0.68, but in the scheme of supported device is reported Sauna to be installed on this device using the Android 11 or 12 .
My question is what’s the best Sailfish OS to be installed on this device ? And what’s about Sailfish 5 , can I use it over Android 13 or I’ve to downgrade to version 12 ? Unfortunately I didn’t find any of these informationsv over Jolla official site. Thank you
The best version is the latest version. Updates of SFOS does not change what Android version to install over. By all means search other threads if some later Android version will work, but just following the official installation instructions is going to be fine. If “you can’t find information” then there generally is no new information to find.
Thank you to reply, so you suggest to install Sailfish 5 over Android 13 version ? And what’s about the bootloader of Xperia 10 iii. Is important to unlock it to have a correct installation of Sailfish 5 ?
If that makes your life easier and it seems to help some people - why not try?
What? You can’t install it without an unlocked bootloader.
It’s I know about the bootloader but I needed more confirmation. Last but not least, there are different opinions about the license, did Sailfish’s OS 5 license Lifetime or renewable annually or monthly. Is not so clear on the official site
What?!
No there aren’t.
This has nothing to do with SFOS version - it is about devices.
The license you buy for legacy devices is the same old forever-version that it always was.
Stop looking for “new information” where there isn’t any.
Ok I understand. Thank you very much for your help it sound good. Can I disturb you anymore next days not now ?
@Zaito It’s often reported in this forum, that installing SFOS over Android 13 brings better results regarding VoLTE echo cancellation. That’s a very serious problem und A12/11, people have to suffer. So if you currently have A13 on your device, install over it and enjoy.
Once device is unlocked and first time flashed, you never have to do this unlocking steps again. If you want to reflash your device later for any reason, it’s much much easier. You’ll never again need anything from Sony side, no unlock code, after you’ve done this initially.
Good morning Attah, are you a member of Jolla’s staff ?
No. I am not.
Thank you for your help. Have a good day
Members of Jolla staff can be recognized by the “Leader” badge
Don’t poo-poo people trying to help you for not being “staff”.
The actual staff are busy developing the OS, not personally replying to questions that are answered in the official documentation:
And, fwiw, the X 10 III is said to be the best choice for SFOS.
please bear in mind that this question is NOT obvious, and rtfm is not a great answer.
the latest android 11 remains the only official recommendation from SFOS.
it is a bad recommendation. i get the call echo and the green tint on low brightness when installing SFOS over android11, and i dont get it on android12 or android13.
(unlike what So9 says, for me at least, the oldest available android12 is sufficient to fix both of these issues)
also, adding to the confusion, there is the question of the oem binaries, which is fully independent of underlying android, and has a similarly complicated answer. you can use android12 v2a binaries, and it may work better than the android11 v9a binaries that are recommended. in my experience, its exactly the same. the android13 binaries break everything.
TLDR
- upgrade to android13 before installing sailfish, despite official recommendation
- use the recommended android11 v9a oem binaries during the install
- install the latest sailfish version (currently 5.0.0.68)
- purchase a one-time 10III license on your account, and then when you sign in with that account at first boot, you will be offered android app support on this device.
There are so many different opinions and difficult to realize what’s the better. Your procedure sound good but I don’t know which binaries is better to use over Android 13. I found only binaries v9a from official Sony site.My Xperia 10 iii bought in 2023 war already updated to Android 13. Now the procedure you give me is to use the android 12 binaries and than after the unlock of bootloader I can flash Sailfish latest version. Is it correct ?
Please could you tell me where I can get android binaries 12 , I found only v9a from Sony site. Is there also a binaries 13 ?
Now you are trying to read too much into this again.
There is “Android version you install over” and “Android binaries version”.
These are different and unrelated.
Just follow the guide for the binaries. And start trying instead of just asking all possible questions upfront - some things become obvious.
Don’t mind attah. He is the quota grumpy and is like that for everyone. His intentions are basically good. He is so hard trying to make everyone to use their brains by pointing out every “stupid question”.
And don’t get me wrong, there are no stupid questions. Attah should just chill out a bit and try not to answer every single “stupid” question, at least not with that attitude. (Since there are people here with more constructive way to point to the right direction.)
So welcome aboard. Have a good one with your new Sailfish phone!
You certainly are more expert than me, but I prefer to thing with my brain and this is the reason why I prefer to make many questions before to try to finalize all the procedures. I’ve appreciated your opinion and I’m sure to receive good information from your side. But is also interesting to observe how different persons can have different opinions. Thank you anyway.
Thank you for your help, I share what’s you say about Attach. Anyone should be make his own experience, but if it’s possible to avoid stuck during the installation of Sailfish X it would be better. I prefer to follow the full instructions received by someone more expert.
