Hi everybody,
I am thinking to return to SFOS. Therefore I need a phone with proper android support. Jolla phone is too expensive so it has to be a Sony. Is there information about how long each Sony device will be supported by Jolla? What about the supported device features like fingerprint, camera, …?
I could get a Xperia 10 III (xqbt52) for about 50€. If I understood correctly this will support VOLTE as opposed to the XA2 phones.
Best regards,
Jens
Currently dailying Xperia 10 III, nothing to complain, tho I only need Android support for a bank app and browser since the stock one on 5.1 is unusble.
5G and volte work for me (Telia FI) but check the forums for the threads on carrier support and bank apps to know your case.
Newer Sony’s seem to be on perpetual beta don’t get those.

I guess many people here can talk about the 10iii. Here a start:
Overall it’s a great SFOS phone.
Cameras:
- Infamous bug, it cannot focus on moving subjects Camera refuses to take picture on 10 III (focus hangs) . If you picture cats, small kids, technical objects that are moving, the 1× and 2× cameras can refuse to take the picture. In my experience the 0.7× works well in that case.
- 0.7× camera: in my case at least the color balance is weird.
- Get the triple camera toggle from Chum repository X10III Triple Camera Toggle — SailfishOS:Chum, a Sailfish OS software repository by the community Otherwise SFOS only supports by default the 1× camera (and the selfie camera). The toggle give you access to the three cameras (1×, 2×, 0.7×)
- I could never manage to get to work the camera effects like “sepia” etc. that appear in the list at the bottom of Jolla camera software (not that I care a lot about it).

As long as technically not to expensive. Usually almost ten years.
I read many claims here that it’s a great option.
For you. I still use it. And with SFOS 5.2 browser is upgraded.
Please be more specific. Open source for Xperia 10 IV and Xperia 10 V seem abandoned by Sony. They also changed it a lot. But it’s also true that Jolla is focused on Jolla Phone for now.

I will correct myself. I said “it’s a great SFOS phone” while it is more than that, it is: the best SFOS phone with App Support after the J2.

I had the X, XA2 and 10 III. All were excellent daily drivers in their days. Today my 10 III brought me from Berlin to somewhere in Poland close to the russian border. It made it easy to handle navigation, communication via Threema, Signal, Telegram, Email and some browsing.
It woke me in the morning, kept my notes and handled all appointments.
I had to reboot at the border. Happens all the time.
Photos are… good enough for snapshots.
But all in all I would be happy if I weren’t expecting my J2. So I am even happier.
Experience won’t be all golden with SFOS but there’s no cage where someone could have applied that cheap paintjob.

I’ve been driving the Xperia 10 III for I guess around a year now. It works fine.
My only major annoyances are freezes during high memory usage and the fact that I have to keep it on silent all the time to prevent headphone jack audio routing from breaking.
You might know that already, a restart of the audio service in utilities does the job.

The browser is unusable for me, currently on 5.1. which is the reason I need AAS for a browser, but I do have high hopes for the update coming in on 5.2. I could have been clearer.
As for the newer Sony devices, both are still beta almost 2 years in, Sony has ended open devices program and I personally doubt company the size of Jolla have the resources to focus on bringing them out of beta in the near term (due J2 launch) So if someone is looking for a 5G capable Sailfish device right now but don’t want to get the J2 for some reason I’d suggest they seek for a 10 III.
Any source other then broken DL links?
Sony didn’t end the Open Devices Program.
Latest Phone added to it is The 1 VII.
But sure it is a slow and not very reactive program.
Considering the XA2 is still supported - since 2018 - I don’t worry about support for my 10 III running out.
