Sailfish OS for Fairphones devices

Yes, I use LineageOS as base. I decided to use same for both fp4 and fp5 to make it easier for me to maintain the ports.

Video recording should now work on FP4 and FP5 after device is updated to latest version (“zypper ref” and “zypper dup” as usual). I also disabled the problematic H.264/AVC hardware codec for now. I will try to find a way to fix it later. I also updated kernel with latest changes, nothing new feature-wise but just the usual bug fixes LineageOS includes in their kernels.

Perhaps I caused confusion in my post further up the thread when I referred to my FP4 running waydroid under Ubuntu Touch. I believe the ubuntu touch port for FP4 is based on Android 11 (?). Not sure what that means in terms of possibly getting waydroid running on a Fairphone 4 with Sailfish OS.

Having switched my Fairphone 4 from Ubuntu Touch to Sailfish OS, the only thing I really miss is a matrix client that supports video calling, as on Ubuntu Touch I could run Element on waydroid.

Have confirmed that video recording works now, thanks!

Since I updated to 5.0.0.62 on Saturday, I notice that “4G calling (VoLTE)” defaults to on. However, when it is on, calling works but SMS messages fail to send. If I disable VoLTE, sending SMS works again.

I have similar issues with SMS on C2. As far as I can tell, the apps does not trigger a communication. After restart and sometimes out of a sudden it works.

Thanks for the big update @mal ! It works very good, now the videos in Fernschreiber / Yottagram are working.

How warm or hot gets your FP5? My intention is a combined use of FP5+SFOS connected to a UHD monitor. As I have read, the DisplayPort Alt mode appears running fine on hat device.

For me it’s the same.

I need Android support for Signal, Conversations, Perplexity, XCSoar and Aero XC.

And I need Dual SIM support because I don’t like to have 2 mobiles in my pocket.

I flashed the Fairphone for testing. I’ve got it from my company.
I was surprised how stable the port is and how fast the cam is working compared to the Xperia 10III.
It seems to be a good choice for using Sailfish if you are fine with native apps only.

A small teaser. I already managed to get Sailfish OS UI running on FP6. Almost nothing else works but it’s a start at least. The LineageOS port for FP6 I use as base for the hardware support is not even finished yet and has issues.

Would love to see it as the next gen Jolla phone, even better with some Jolla specific backcover

One more quick question: what does he recommend? Flashing the FP4 with the stock (a 13) or with the lineage (a 15)?

I flashed it on top of a14, latest update.

I would recommend flashing something that brings all latest firmware content. So latest official release or some latest LineageOS (I assume those also flash the firmware partitions).

Is it possible to make upgrade to 5.0.0.68 on FP5?

Yes, there is 5.0.0.68 available for both FP4 and FP5. The usual “ssu re 5.0.0.68”, and then “version --dup” (or “zypper ref” and “zypper dup”).

Thanks @mal! it worked.
I’ve tried to use the waydroid, but it looks like some kernel modules are not presented, like veth
Are there any progress?

I can enable those, need to see about that hopefully tomorrow or during weekend.

Hi @Mal. I have a question. If I use Android 11 as the base on my FP4 and then install SFoS, will there be any issues with the drivers? This occurred to me because I thought that’s how Waydroid might work…

Or should I just try it out?

This is definitely not one of those things.
