Does retroarch still work on Sailfish 5.0?
Is using that rpm in the OP ( Release release-20240113173734 · smokku/RetroArch · GitHub ) with subsequent updating still an option?
I don’t have a Sailfish device yet, waiting for the Jolla Phone, so I can’t just try it out. The ability to get some old console games to run sounds like fun but I don’t know if that is way over my head for a noob like me.
Looks good:
I did not venture further than that.

I have some builds available at

but haven’t used them for a while.

Thanks, that’s something to try out, once I get my hands on the Jolla Phone.
The most usable thing for Retrogaming is probably ScummVM at the moment.
It works well - always depending on the game.
Certainly going to try it out as well, but it is only for retro adventure games, isn’t it?
I don’t know about this specific one as I emulate pretty much everywhere except sfos, but with retroarch and no extra apps you can emulate up to PS1/N64.
If 30€ handhelds with all winner socs can emulate perfectly fine with shaders, I believe sfos devices have enough power to do this as well.
Unless there are sfos specific issues ofc, I don’t know that.

I’d be mostly interested in SNES stuff, that shouldn’t be an issue performance wise. But I’ll come back to it once I have the Jolla Phone.

No, it’s for all types of “old” games.
From their website:
RetroArch is a free, open-source application that serves as a unified interface for various emulators and game engines. It supports a plethora of systems, from classic consoles like the NES and SNES to more modern platforms like the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
This referred to nephros advertising of scummvm, which is great, by the way

My comment was about scummvm.
OK. But the same answer essentially. It’s for old games, full stop. Though I can see how you get that impression.
I mean, Retro is in the name right?
Maybe there was confusion on what retro arch is?
I’m not quite such a purist, myself. I’d be interested in seeing if I could get the PalmOS core (Mu) working/building on/for SFOS RetroArch. Mainly because it’s got my favorite shopping list applet ever. That and the Visor version of the Palm calendar that’s got sunrise/sunset built-in.

Does that still exist? I just get a 404.
I got my 8bitDo SN30 Pro controller to work via bluetooth on the Jolla Phone with Retroarch (after setting controller buttons manually). However, after updating everything, I find the emulator downloader and everything but when I try to launch any ROM, retroarch minimises and then when opening restarts or hangs. Does anyone else actually manage to launch a rom?
Yea I have moved the repos out of the “devel” project.
Please try:
Note that these packages are built against “latest” SFOS, i.e. currently 5.2.
Please let me know if you get any dependency errors on another release so I can add that one to the repo..

The only dependency error I got was that Retroarch requires Retroarch-minimal-assets and Retroarch-minimal-assets requires Retroarch
If I ignored that requirement for Retroarch-minimal-assets and subsequently installed Retroarch I could launch it and the controller could be set up.
I have two pretty bad issues though. I managed to load a core and a rom for SNES and press run by pressing that “play” button. I get to the play screen with control overlays, all buttons work but I get neither video nor sound, no matter what I press.
After reinstalling I also get the additional problem that Retroarch constantly freezes for a few seconds, especially after a few controller imputs. Weirdly I did not have that problem initially. The old 1.16 version further up in the thread, does not have that freezing issue, however kills itself when loading any content.
Getting segfaults trying to run any core on j2
Hm, that one should be solvable by installing both at the same time but I may be wrong.

Which SFOS release? 5.1? (EDIT: I’m an idiot, read C2 instead of J2)
