[RELEASE] SaneFish - What Jolla Forgot

Yeah, indeed. I was thinking if …

is true, well, then I should be able to compile this stuff from source?

Well, just from a logical point of view the last char of your post was a mistake and should be a ‘!’

Just because it’s developed for Sailfish OS, doesn’t mean everything should be open sourced. Even Jolla doesn’t do that :man_shrugging:

If you wanna use it as is, use it.
If not, then don’t.

No one forces anyone to use it!

YOUR PHONE! YOUR LOOK! YOUR RULES!!! < Yes, with the patches that I deliver and the PLENTY options that are available

What an attitude … And if you wake up one morning and decide to not work on the project anymore … without the source, the users are done. Just like that.
But, of course, that’s the users’ problem, they decided to use it.
Nice.

I started SaneFish because I wanted to add features and improvements that I personally felt were missing from Sailfish OS. I decided to share my work so others could benefit from it as well.

I welcome constructive feedback, bug reports, and suggestions. That’s how software improves.

But there’s a difference between constructive criticism and constantly questioning someone’s intentions, making accusations, or demanding that they develop and distribute their software according to someone else’s expectations.

Regarding the source code: I’ve made my decision not to release it publicly at this point. I understand that some people prefer open-source software, and I respect that. If that means SaneFish isn’t something you’re comfortable installing, that’s perfectly fine too.

What I don’t appreciate is the implication that keeping my own code private somehow makes me untrustworthy or that the software must be doing something malicious. Those are serious suggestions to make without evidence.

Nobody is being forced to install SaneFish. I’m simply sharing something I’ve spent my own time and effort creating.

I’d much rather spend that time improving SaneFish, fixing bugs, and discussing useful features than defending myself against the same arguments over and over.

To everyone who has provided constructive feedback, reported issues, or simply enjoyed using SaneFish: Thank you!!! You’re the reason I’m happy to share my work

As far as the source-code discussion goes, I’ve said what I wanted to say. I’d prefer to get back to discussing the software itself.

Which requires that I see the source. Otherwise it’s all YOUR RULES and you’re misleading people.

It is very difficult to judge if you are trustworthy. My person has been open on the internet since 1994. My personal sites have a long history and you can dox me with zero effort. My github repos are 99% gpl and I respond to users. What do I know about you to make you trustworthy?
EDIT: and yes, I’ve visited HtheB - Nintendo DS Development

There’s no longer any reason to keep a source code closed. If a single guy was able to recreate the whole Adobe Suite in a week (as I read on HN), anyone could literally recreate SaneFish with a few prompts in one hour. Just copy paste the features list from the first post to your LLM, and ask to do the same. Then make it open source.

Wasted time.. If you don’t like something don’t use it. If you want to use it, accept the conditions or pass your way.

Can you all please stick to the topic!

Hi,

I made a mistake and installed new (incompatible) version of Android Auto from Aurora store just after I had installed Sanefish without problems and before I had tested it in car. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, but it failed. All help would be appreciated.

Which one? Sanefish? or What Jolla Forgot?

I was just updating some things in the background.
Please try again now!

Make sure to update your catalog first from the pulley menu

Thx. No I got this far. How could I get that older version 173662854 for Android Auto?

@raderaystas Use the direct download if you can’t get it from the Aurora Store

Thx, but I tried that as well. The problem was with the broken intallation in Aurora Store. I re-installed the new version of Android Auto, then uninstalled it and installed the compatible version using Direct Download. That did it. Next thing is to try to connect to my bZ4X.

I am not able to uninstall Sanefish, pease help!
Did an update once within app as you had not yet published the update to openrepos. But now I am not able to uninstall via openrepos as the update never came to openrepos. How do I uninstall?
Some patches worked well but I’ll wait until they are avaliable via patchmanager. My CPU sleep went down and trying to figure out what caused it when I realised that I was not able to uninstall this software.

@Apostle SaneFish > About > pulley menu > Uninstall SaneFish

It will work once you’ve removed all the SaneFish patches first.

Note: My patches won’t be on the Patchmanager web catalog.

Thank you for the very fast response! I see, how unfortunate. Well the swedish translation is “dölj sanefish”, that is “hide sanefish”. Is this just a bad translation? I don’t want to only hide it, I want to uninstall.
