[Release notes] Tampella 5.0.0.67

Indeed, the approach adding a file below /etc/appsupport.conf.d/init/prepare-hook.d/ seems to be working.

Cheers!

Still NFC and Bluetooth not working in Android apps?

It looks like Captive Portal app is fixed a bit. No more black background in main window.

Have you got Mimic installed?

I don’t know about Bluetooth (I have never needed it in Android) but NFC is definitely not implemented

Maybe i should have said: i can notice the drain on 5.0.0.67 is quite a bit faster than on 4.6. On 5.0.0.62 it was like a LOT faster.

My bluetooth is working for atleast streaming spotify and di.fm (Android Apps) to headset. On my Jolla C2 device.

Need android NFC to get my bank app to work. Have to scan my passport with NFC. And need android Bluetooth so i can use my phone as a key to open my Tesla. I can stream music in the car but it is because it uses Sailfish Bluetooth. Tesla app says i have to activate Bluetooth to use my phone as a key and my Bluetooth is activated but it doesn’t reconize it.

Can this be fixed at all with Sailfish OS?

Everything can be fixed - it is a question if it can be done with an anywhere near reasonable amount of work. NFC supposedly is mostly just a toggle away - Bluetooth not so much.

However, if you are that deep into being dependent on Android, you should probably consider if Sailfish OS is really for you.

I for one would never buy an app-car - what would you do when the app goes unmaintained or similar? Scrap the car? I’d also never use a bank app (websites work just fine!). Though unfortunately the eID solution here in .se is app-only and owned by the banks, with a similar activation procedure - or you can just show up at a physical office.

Yes it can be fixed, but don’t count on any of that within the following couple of years.

(That is unless you know an altruistic billionaire that won’t mind donating a significant portion to the SFOS project)

Unfortunately not. In France, for example, at the end of the month, Crédit Mutuel will be forcing all users to use its smartphone application to enable second authentication in order to connect to the website. Of course, I could install microG, but I’m very much afraid that installing it would “break” my main bank’s application, which works perfectly well without microG.

Surely that’s not the only option? France, while perhaps not the most technologically advanced, tends to be very good with rights. I’d switch banks over such nonsense honestly. Just imagine the resilience of some random app vs a hardware token - not even close.

Soo… no relation to the NFC discussion?

Which will somehow keep working without said 2FA?
While the ideal number of forced apps is of course zero, i’d take the 2FA over a “banking app” any time.

microG really shouldn’t break anything that is working wtihout microG, but surely you could just uninstall it if it did, right?

My main bank’s application is 2FA, although it is a little more flexible (verification every 6 months with the obligation to change your password for the website and the app). Verification will be carried out using the bank’s application and its “digital” key, which now works without microG. And this bank still offers this SMS solution for people who have no smartphones at all or no compatible smartphones.

After about few weeks with 5.0.0.67 I’ve found few annoyances in comparison with previous version(s):

  1. WIFI network based on mesh loses connection (seems connected, no internet available) when moving between different devices, worked before flawlessly,
  2. Aliendalvik is losing connection to mobile network more often than before (I have to stop AD, restart ofono and start AD again 3-4 times a day vs twice a week before,
  3. once a day or two, after finished call, audio system hangs for other sources of sound. I can call again, but sometimes previous connection ‘hangs’, call record does not finish recording. Can’t initiate call due to ‘network connection problems’. This also happened before an updated but just once a week or even less often.

Is it possible that some old files in telephony stack causes this (started with 4.0.0.x then upgrading)? The usability degradation of is terrifying. I have even reinstalled all packages on my phone. How can I debug this?

i also have all three of these issues since 5.0.0.61. i never do OTA upgrading, i always do a fresh install. these issues are all new, or much worse, since 4.6.

for #2, it happens every time i connect and then disconnect wifi. appsupport will have no connectivity as soon as the wifi is unavailable. restarting appsupport + ofono fixes it, and nothing else does.

i set up a shortcut to disable-wifi + restart-ad + restart-ofono. i triple click the camera button to do this, basically every time i leave my house.

i hate to say it, but it really does seem like connectivity only ever gets worse on sailfish.

Really seems that #2 is connected to WIFI. I’ve turned wifi off and no need to restart AD. Thanks teleshoes.

Could you please share the script you use to restart?
