[Release notes] Tampella 5.0.0.62

That sounds terrifying. I had a hope that switching to X10V with 6GB will going to solve the issues. My Xperia X performs way more stable as well.

Using german o2, you need to switch VoLTE of for sending a sms.

Swipe the keyboard down and tap on the text field to open it again. You might have to try a few times, but eventually the text field will move up and it works.

I had volte off, when the sms issue ocured. Turned it on to test if its better. Now turned it off again.
now again the call got a crack noise and went silent… That is really bad!!! Phone is not usable at the moment, and its my daily driver.

Awesome to see ESR91 is part of an official release now!

I have been testing this on Xperia 10 II for the last couple months, using the install instructions provided by @flypig at https://flypig.co.uk/geckoinstall, and it was working great already (actually fixed several websites for me, e.g. buying train tickets from bahn.de).

Now I’m wondering whether I can safely upgrade the phone to version 5, since the browser is already ESR91, or should I revert to ESR78 first as per the instructions given on flypig’s site?

Technically my browser profile is already converted to ESR91, so I would prefer to keep this in its current state, rather than reverting to the old backup, of course.
Any ideas about possible risks of just recklessly upgrading the phone in this state?

You should be fine just upgrading, browser packages are part of 5.x now so they will get the latest/currently supported version, nothing stopping you from overwriting 5.x packages with the blog ones, but they’re months behind by now, it’s not like you enabled some risky repos (still have a backup just in case)

Personally I reverted back before upgrading (with the instructions on the same page you linked), to avoid any issues with the symlink. But as @throwaway69 highlights, it does seem that others did a direct overwrite without it causing problems.

One thing to bear in mind is that if you followed the instructions to the letter, you’ll have made a copy of your ESR 78 profile. Once you’re satisfied everything is in order after the upgrade, you may want to delete this to save space.

I’m glad to hear you’ve been having success with it.

Just upgraded to 5.0.0.62 and no issues with browser so far, thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

I see the default font for text-only websites might have slightly changed (or it’s just me looking at it differently due to expectations), but it really does seem like the left page margin is reduced (also on other, html-based websites), i.e. the text is rendered more closely to the edge of the screen. Is this intended to fit more text to the screen, or maybe an issue of settings conversion? Not an actual problem, of course.

There is a thread about browser issues.

Now tested many days. Calling everyday and getting calls. Messeges goes and comes but not mms. This said it is a clean install with only three other apps Apoide, File browser and Here maps. Browsing is fine to the pages I tested. Working as a phone but can one say as a smartphone??

Update… I installed MyScript calkylator from an apk file and the phone went silent again. Uninstalled and rebooted …works again. HMMMM

Microsoft Translator (Android app) doesn’t install offline languages.
In SFOS 4.5.0.24 (old phone) it does.
In SFOS 5.0.0.62 eternal spinning wheel and nothing downloaded.

In 4.5.0.24, /home/defaultuser/android_storage/Android/data/com.microsoft.translator/files/Download/ is accessible via FileBrowser or sftp from computer.

In 5.0.0.62, only /home/defaultuser/android_storage/Android/data/com.microsoft.translator/ is accessible, and for files/ access is denied.

Inside files there are the language files on the old working system 4.5.0.24 .

Any ideas how to fix? Thank’s for any hint!

edit: The rights for the files directory are the same on both phones:
Working phone 4.5.0.24:
drwxrws--- 4 10046 1078 4096 Jun 4 2024 files
Not working phone 5.0.0.62:
drwxrws--- 3 10047 1078 4096 Mar 23 18:09 files

So why is access denied on the latter?

There is possible software solution. Most of the apps may release its caches when memory is under pressure (like browser, map applications…). But SFOS api for that is terribly broken. First of all, MCE is not watching used memory properly, second, lowmemory killer (kernel module) and AppSupport lowmemory killer (lmkd) are separated components from mce (that should notify about memory pressure), so apps have no chance to release memory before they are killed… I asked Sailors multiple times if they want and how they want to solve it. But with vague responce :frowning:

Did you ask that in the meetings?

I really hope this problem gets some attention.

The OOM reaper is pretty active on X10III, and with Sailfish 5 it seems to displace the killed application on home screen when opening an Android application. And I’m used to placing app covers in a certain order, so this kinda bothers me a bit.

Even with that I’m pretty happy with the latest update with a fresh install.

Yes, I asked the question in January 2022. But there is silence since then. It is also my fault, as I stop pushing the topic. I also prepared experimental patch for MCI to use PSI (pressure stall information), but it is not solving the issues itself…

I am using Xperia10 V and for some reason I cannot download it (tried 3 wifi source).

I have successfully updated over-the-air to 5.0.0.61, but whenever I try to download the update of 5.0.0.62, it will stuck at beginning.

Somehow when it comes to 4th restart it works.

update went smoothly on my xperia 10III. but the camera issue still persists: can’t focus, extremel slow,

Just noticed that the sonos app DOES work! I just updated it to the actual version, opened it and waited… Just waited, patiently, for once and it works haha
Couldn’t see my albums in my own local library though. Still a good start.

OT, but as I’m also the type who loves pre-arranged covers: did you find a way to auto-arrange them at boot? I tried Takeoff but had my fair problems besides Sailjail support (missing app start delay)…
