[Release notes] Tampella 5.0.0.62

It’s actually D2 (I specifically asked for it, as all other providers have close to zero network availability in my area).

Good to know with the loss of GPS accuracy!

Rebooting first without, then again with SIM card didn’t bring call functionality back.

I’m not sure as I don’t wanna rely on it - 4G coverage in rural areas is still kinda brittle. I think it should work fine without, just like before?

Also forcing 2G or 3G network preferance didn’t bring call functionality back - phone app still crashing.

@miroj56 SMS is indeed working for me as well. Looks like we’re in the same boat…

Apparently that’s no fix either, as @Dickus51 is facing the same issue after a clean reflash.

My recent suspicion is if it’s possibly related to the actual modem chip (driver), which apparently differs with country/Dual-SIM/?.

If i apply them, while they do not work, they break keyboard

AFAIK 1&1 has it’s own very small network but relies on Telefonica in most areas in Germany. D2 is only used for 5G roaming.
But I may be wrong here.

May be it depends on the 1&1 contract.
I got the info from 1&1 that all (3) my sim cards must be replaced to enable 5G.
They all worked well for phone calls, but for SMS only sending works. receiving only works after setting 2G and reboot the phone.
As i know the new sim cards came from the 1&1 sub contractor o2.

In fact 1&1 has replaced both of my SIM cards a couple of weeks before just for this reason - never used 5G so far, though. (The second one is for my surfstick - @WT.Sane, this one is using the 1&1-preferred O2 E-Netz, while my phone SIM is presumably working on Vodafone infrastucture).

SMS does still work, sending as well as receiving, via 4G-preferred network mode, so I don’t really see an issue here.

I have also one 1&1 SIM, which was replaced with a 5G enabled SIM last year. And for me, sending as receiving SMS works on the C2 with 5.0.0.62.

I have the “In case of emergency-field on lockscreen” and “Android support button” patches. When I activate them, Patchmanager just says “Error, couldn’t apply them” (or something like that). But this does not have any effects on my system like you experience

So I finally reflashed 5.0.0.62 on top of Android 13 (Xperia 10 III). Experiences so far:

Pluses:

  • No problems with the install procedure.
  • No color banding / under contrast thing anymore, what ever it is. (On initial install on top of Android 11 it didn’t occur. After reflashing Android 11 and reinstalling SFOS it suddenly happened.)
  • Finally there is no (approximately a second or two) delay/lag after opening the settings menu. That was super annoying.
  • YouTube (for Android) works again.
  • UI feels generally snappy again. (On some 4.x update everything started to feel sluggish.)

Minuses:

  • Last few versions of OP Mobiili (for Android) won’t start.
  • Sometimes some Android apps start as closed/minimized on application grid. The cover needs to be tapped again for the app to open.

I’ll be reporting more after some time of use and if anything comes up.

Despite the minuses, I would recommend updating to the latest version.

Since upgrading from 4.6, my 10 IV reboots after unplugging from the charger every time. Very annoying.

If I have the display on or audio playing as I unplug it, the device will remain functional. Once the display is off or the audio is paused, within half a minute the device will vibrate once and go unresponsive, then reboot by itself a few minutes later.

Has anyone else had this problem? It is reproducible 100% of the time.

Thanks for reporting. My X10V actually is having the same issue, and there’s one more case I know of. I’ve opened an internal bug for this.

As a workaround, using a “dumb” charger that doesn’t trigger the USB connection mode question doesn’t cause the abrupt shudown to happen - in my case at least.

Glad to hear it, thanks. Happy to provide more information if required.

I am yet to find any charger that does not trigger the USB connection mode question. Everything from the cheapest, nastiest Chinese plastic chargers that weigh nothing to proper Qualcomm Quickcharge 3.0 bricks and OEM chargers will trigger this question. Am I looking for the wrong thing? Do I need to find just a charging cable to use, as opposed to a power+data cable?

Yep. That’ll certainly do.

When you go settings>connectivity>USB, you can choose the usb mode. And set it to ‘charging only’ for exemple.

Also try chargers which are ‘not’ fast chargers (PD or QC), so a usual 5V3A-only charger.

Indeed. Raspberry Pi 4 Power supply works great in that use case.

Raspberry Pi charger has 5,1V output, therefore normal USB power supplies not usable for Raspi.
Thanks for the hint!

That’s not entirely correct. Disclaimer: I’m electronics engineer professionally. A bit increased voltage is meant for voltage drop on wires. It’s almost universal over all chargers or even power supplies. So such voltage is not a reason for unsuitability at all. OTOH there are some chargers with big voltage fluctuations called voltage ripple. That happens with unreasonable cost savings measures. They can still charge batteries just fine but can reset or even worse other electronics like RasPi SBC.

Yes that’s everything true. The 5,1V voltage is printed on the Raspi power supply. I didn’t meter it myself. But with standard USB power supplies sufficient for charging cellphones, Raspi don’t work properly, it only works with the unit supplied with the Raspi.

edit: the many USB power supplies of my ‘collection’ mostly show 4,9V when metering the voltage, not enough for Raspi.
