Noted the gapless playback wish. We have an old task for that but never gotten around there yet.

I’ve run into one new issue with the media player after the update.
The media player crashes when trying to add a song to any playlist (large or small)
Env:
Steps to reproduce:
1 play a song in media player
2 add song to playlist
3 select the playlist to be added to
4 about 15 seconds later the media player crashes and when you enter it again, the song you added was not added to the play list.
Tried adding to a playlist of over 1000 songs or one of 100 but same behavior.
Previously before the update i could add songs to playlists. Each time it would trigger a reindexing of the music files and take about 30 seconds to recover UI functionality but it would eventually become normal. I know i am at a large scale of music files and music file sizes which can make things odd, but i didn’t have this issue before the update.
Let me know if i should file an issue elsewhere. Curious if anyone else can reproduce it even at a much smaller scale of music.
Yes, and the gapless works wonderfully in Flow player too. I was just waiting for someday to hopefully get the issue with local album art files not displaying unless a particular file and jpeg extension, resolved as that’s kind of a bummer when using it, but it’s a great app otherwise.
As issues usually do not “resolve” themselves, it is either continuing to wait or doing something about it, I suppose.
Could you solve it with SmartHome app. I have the same problem with Sony Xperia 10ii and SFOS 5.0.0.62. I need the app for my both air conditions (Compfee) and also Midea-App not work. It open and aften secounds closed the coverapp. Not nice…
Indeed, reproduced that. This should fix it: [qtgrilo] Fix crash on callback for cancelled operation. JB#63255 by pvuorela · Pull Request #9 · sailfishos/qtgrilo · GitHub
Thanks for reporting.
We’ll look into this @tobset and see what we could do to bring this back – even via that patchmanager patch. Maybe there’s something that can be added to coming update releases.
This version 3.5 (last at Android 5+) of MSmartHome is runnig under 5.0.0.62
Dear Raine @rainemak ,
that would be so nice - thank you so much.
btw. - ‘personalringtones’ is not a patchmanager patch

And I’m afraid ‘personalringtones’ interferes even with the different ringtone for SIM2 Ringtone settings [4.5.0.24] rings melody of SIM 1 to SIM 2 - #4 by tobset
…a very handy feature I suggesred to Joona Petrell in Oct. 21 (along with the scrollbar in gallery app, that was implemented by you already as well)
Ok, works might a bit overstating, the map jumps left and right, but at least you can order it? Will let you know… Stay tuned like and subscribe
Edit: what you claimed on map might be jumping wildly rn, I guess this is expected?
Edit2: still hoping what I ordered (manually typing adress street, using crosshair seemed like a dooomed situation from the start
Edit3: only 5 mins rn, it’s about to happen
Edit4: the uber app keeps sending updates, that seems good
Edit5: no opening the app means the whole thing get redrawn in crazy steps, microg guys need to do some work for sure
Edit6: but the guy arrived in manually entered location and agreed to the manually entered destination, yay, we got working uber
Who cares about tweaking osmmaps right?
Edit7: srsly if jolla paid for microg this feature heads should roll, this is in no way built in etc
Lets see if I can even pay for this
Edit8: yup, even the tip worked, so awesome, the whole thing works if you know the address on both sides, gg
EditXXX: if you know the address pickup and delivery, uber rides work with current setup, do noy try the map thing though, it keeps showing stuff kilometers away, cheers and thanks for coming to my ted talk
Edit:XXXI: and just to be clear this was done in EU country, about to redo the same in US, will let you know how our microg on C2 fares there (not expecting much, but we’ll see)
Curious thing is, around 5.0.0.61 microg cooperation seemed to kick in (FOSDEM announcement), we got 62 in the meantime, are we already falling behind? It’s been a while, maybe we need a faster cadence to keep up with microg? Or is it the other way around? The current experience is pretty bad tho, whichever it is
So I thought maybe swipe up is not the way to unlock as tap-hold the lock icon works reliably but alas:
Hey @pvuorela good news, is that with the new update i can add tracks to a playlist and they will stay on the list.
Bad news is i still get a crash of the media player over half the time when i add the track. But not every time. Not sure what the difference is when it crashes or not.
So, progress, but not quite all the way there. Thought i’d update here since we were already chatting but let me know if i should take it to the new release thread.
Hm, interesting. Can’t reproduce myself anymore. I do have a bunch of adjustments on the mediaplayer since 5.0 but wouldn’t think anything should fix a crash.
If you feel like digging in more, you might try attaching gdb and getting a backtrace when it crashes. Instructions should be somewhere there. Could be also that the next update just happens to work better.
Also wonder if anyone else still gets a crash.
I’m happy to reproduce and try to capture a gdb dump for you, i have some time now.
Haven’t run gdb before in sailfish, but i found this doc and successfully installed gdb in dev mode, and now i’m wondering which service override file i should proceed with the next steps.
Also wasn’t sure if there were additional debug symbols or other things required for media player debugging to capture the dump.
Or if there is a different approach i should take for the media player dump feel free to redirect me. I’m happy to work my way through this and help identify the root of this if you can tolerate some novice experience with gdb getting there
You can debug a running process. Get the process id with ps and then run gdb -p PID. See here for more details https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2308653/can-i-use-gdb-to-debug-a-running-process
Read the section about ptrace_scope as well if it does not work.
Then once it crashes type bt or bt full for the backtrace
What is the reason to reply under 5.0.0.55 update?
@Drekkie and others please use latest release thread and update your devices to latest.
For 5.1 we’re planning to use a single topic for the time span of 5.1. so that all messages are at the same place. Let’s see if that works better.
Hey @pvuorela , i just upgraded to 5.1 (didn’t realize it was out, these releases are coming fast!) and the issue is completely resolved! I added at least 20 tracks to my playlist and no crash at all. So i consider this resolved, and we can leave the thread alone now (but at least anyone else who stumbles onto this issues sees the start and end in all one thread without having to jump around and will know to upgrade).
Thank you and anyone else who fixed this, and being willing to help me troubleshoot further. the audio player is my primary usage of Sailfish, so this is a huge quality of life improvement. Again, if gapless playback ever comes, perfection! Lol
personally, i hope you dont do that. its very helpful to see point releases right in the thread title, and also very nice not to have to read through hundreds of posts to see if a bug is a regression in the point release or the major release.
is it possible for mods to lock threads of previous release announcement threads, and add a link to the next release in the first and last posts? obviously hypocritical to say this, but i also dislike when old release threads get bumped.
to the best of my knowledge, SFOS 5.1 is not out, or at least it is not announced, and not available for download in the jolla store, and not available OTA for 10mk3. jollyboys has been on summer holiday, and did a release just before it, so i dont think we have been expecting an imminent release. did i miss something somehow?
