[Release notes] Tampella 5.0.0.29 for Jolla C2

Ok, thanks it was so easy.

Now C2 is updated to version 5.0.0.29. I succeeded. :grinning:

For me the upgrade starts and when the progress bar is around 5% (don’t know exactly) It stops and says “Sailfish OS could not be updated. Please try again later.” and I can reboot.

Fortunately I can reboot into 5.0.0.21 so my C2 is still working but I don’t know what the exact problem is. I tried this 3 times, with the same result.

Just came on to say the same thing.

When downloading it hits 5%, then jumps to around 15%, then jumps all the way to 100%. Then, of course, only hits a few percent when installing and the ‘could not be updated’ message appears.

Tried downloading on Wifi and data, didn’t make a difference. I’ve tried around 10 times, thinking it could be iffy connection, but the download process always goes the same way. Nothing seems to make a difference.

Had the same problem. Delete Android app support and then try it.

Is it possible, however ? I really don’t understand where to look for it besides at GitHub - sailfishos-chum/sailfishos-chum-gui-installer: Installs the SailfishOS:Chum GUI application. But the installer is nowhere to be seen in the UI.

I don’t even want to know how you found that out.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me either.

In the Jolla shop you just uninstall it. Reinstall is of course also possible

@matebovate @willmason5 In this case i would update from the commandline.

devel-su
ssu re 5.0.0.29
ssu ur
version --dup

Or use sfos-upgrade from the Openrepos

Just skip the installer and install directly from chum https://repo.sailfishos.org/obs/sailfishos:/chum/4.6_aarch64/aarch64/sailfishos-chum-gui-0.6.9-1.10.1.jolla.aarch64.rpm

Tried it via the console. Then it was said that 560MB of space was missing

After a failed update you can inspect /var/log/zypp/history and it will tell you (sometimes) what failed.

I predict it will be something along the lines of:

# 2024-11-14 11:05:34 droid-system-s19mps-1.0.4-1.7.1.jolla.aarch64.rpm install failed
# rpm output:
# installing package droid-system-s19mps-1.0.4-1.7.1.jolla.aarch64 needs 717MB more space on the / filesystem

Thanks, I updated via sfos-upgrade. In the terminal it told me that the droid-system package need 137MB more space. Although I already uninstalled the android support package. So I removed a couple of apps and now it works.

That raised the question in me why the system partition is just 5.7GB? That seems quite small.

Yes. Only by reflashing. With the bigger root partition, getting the subsequent OS updates OTA will be easier.
(a bit of a chicken-egg problem)

One folder to clean up and gain more space is /var/tmp. I had rubbish worth 500 MB in there.

It’s in black and white:

Disabling 4G makes it not a mobile phone

Despite the difficulties I have with the hardware I decided to keep the C2 because I want to support Jolla. I like the OS and want to use it as much as possible. Also I saw on AmazonGermany that they sell book cases for this device, so hopefully with such a case the device becomes a bit more comfortable.
So I took it out of the box again and after rebooting the push for entering the code and for the pulley menu appeared for the first time. Good. I downloaded and installed Sailfish Tampella. That went well. The device is very slow, especially when visiting Jolla shop a lot of patience is needed. Security code is asked often.
Calling: receiving calls works with 2G. My sim is from Simyo, a daughter of KPN, The Netherlands. (What a flimsy sim tray by the way.) Soon I am in the UK, visiting family. Now I wonder if it will work on 2G while I am there. Or do I have to put my sim in another device? Who knows more about this?
