[Release notes] Tampella 5.0.0.29 for Jolla C2

Thanks, I checked the thread and only run few ls and cat commands to mentioned files and directories and suddenly ofono and sim card started to work again. Weird.

Why can’t it be stable? The N9 was. A Calimero complex will not help a company grow.

You hit the nail; it’s the management. And the hybrid structure, a company relying on a good willing community. And the decision to launch two different products at the same time: the Mind and the C2. The lack of control during production. Too much haste.
Let’s hope Jolla can recover from this.

Yes, we all do, they all do, especially young people who are getting their first device. It’s too bad that they are forced to have a Google account because their school works with Google Education Suite (Workspace), so children are being educated in using Google products.

Don’t know where you are located, but in Germany it’s just the other way round: in higher classes you need an iPad. But in the end it’s the same - binding kids to a US based company.

Maybe I forgot to publish my comment:
“I’m not always the best role model myself, but: would you mind staying on topic?”

70% of Dutch schools work with Google. Many schools in the UK too. The same in Switzerland. .

Yes, sorry. Returning to topic: the update went smoothly. But it didn’t help much. I have no sound with incoming calls (mobile on 2,5G). No sound on a FOSS radio app from FDroid, no sounds from another sound-app from Fdroid (NOICE, just for testing), no sound with incoming mail, etc. Yet, when testing the sounds in settings I hear all the sounds properly. Timer sounds in ‘Clock’ do work.
And sounds in newPipe work. ???

i am asked many times about the os on my mobile. i tell the people about privacy, foss, user control, linux, no google…
they listen to me and say - i dont need it. i want the same what all my friends and colleges use…
and about privacy they say - i have nothing to hide, i am not interesting for fsb, cia etc…

so they do not “not knowing it”
they simply dont need it.

and from this perspective - SailfishOS is not mainstream. you dont need to be a dev (i am not a dev, but i work in IT), but you need to care about privacy and you must be ready to pay price for it. for me its ok, when the system i use costs money, and its ok for me that i cant open my ebike with SailfishOS. all this is the price i am ready to pay. but everybody need to decide for himself here…

Do you know how big the Linux Devision was at Nokia?

That SailfishOS matured to Version 5 is Miracle and pure Enthusiasmus of the team.

I am not a Manager, but if i were in the Jolla Management - i doubt i would change something.

if you have low ressources, you need to look where you send them.

Just wait a couple more update. I am prety sure it will be much better experience in the End. My Xperia 10 III is butter-smooth now, anything works!

And in 2022 it was the same mess like C2 now. We are all beta-testers, but without our input it couldn’t grow till the version 5!

I know it’s totally unrelated, but what will happen to first Jolla C? Will it ever see the new browser ESR? Will come a new update for 4.6 Sauna?
Thank you

I think that it was announced that it won’t be SailfishOS 5 released for C1.

Dear community members,

There are quite many posts in this category of Release Notes 5.0.0.29 that do not belong here. If you cannot find a dedicated category for your posts, please write them under “General”.

Thank you!

Well you can just switch to another project, like AOSP, PinePhone Linux, whatever…
Jolla is a very small company, and what they did with very limited resources and with help of the great community is simply amazing!

Of course, when you compare Jolla with Apple or Samsung, or Google - Jolla would look not serious.
But this is not the key here. /me personally love the Geek Linux on a Phone.
And the second argument, which many forget to mention - if SailfishOS would be as known as Android - it would has the same 100000 Apps in the Store, which nobody need…
I am happy with the way they go. But everybody need to decide for himself here…

The update went pretty smoothly, although I had to start again for a couple of times because I had some broblems with my wifi-connection (in general, not related to this particular device). Writing this with a Voxicon bluetooth keyboard, which I love. Too bad it does not work with Android apps at the moment. Tried with my Xperia 10 II, same thing.

Haven’t tested C2 with a sim-card yet, since there is only 2G available in my area.
