not a lot of testing (read: browsing), since the update, but i can anecdotally report that i haven’t had any forced browser crashes in the last few days.
OT: I was/am curious, what in detail the reason was and what Jolla did in detail to fix it. Fact is, it runs much better now. Had no crashes since last update on Xperia 10, and update on a second X10 also went well. Thank’s again @Jolla !
The Jolla-Webbroser after the Update to 4.5.0.21:
Thanks for the unexpected update!
Thanks. So there’s something different about Elisa FI network configuration that makes the ringback tones work on VoLTE, whereas in majority of remaining mobile networks (including mine - T-Mobile PL) there is just the annoying silence.
First of all, thank you for delivering the update!
Now that a couple of days have passed after the update, I have been able to test the performance of the browser. I’m really impressed about how much more stable it is, only one or two crashes per day with intensive use. After all, it’s clearly the most used app in my phone and I’m really happy to not be frustrated with constant crashing anymore.
Although, to be honest, I was a bit let down at first when reading the changelogs. However, putting things into perspective, especially with Jolla’s current financial situation, this is a solid update and a great improvement usability-wise.
Bought a Sony Xperia 10 III, installed SailfishOS on it and after two days I got a notification about an update. That was a feeling like in the good old days
Thank you very much for the Update. The browser is running very well!
Gecko 78 is very old and unmaintained by Mozilla. It would be nice to have a newer browser engine.
Also when I pin a website to the home screen I can’t make it full screen (like a PWA on iOS or Android) which is pretty bad, since that could be an easy fix for the massive amount of missing apps.
Is there any difference among these commands?
zypper refresh
ssu updaterepos
pkcon -yp refresh
Is there a question?
Question mark added, thanks.
So, there is a difference. Different software is used to achieve the same goal.
I noticed that the release sources have not been recently updated:
The last version available is the 4.0.1.48/ which does not contains the adaptation source package for Xperia 10 III.
Possibly there is another link with more updated sources?
I got a hint from the updater to revert or remove the package droid-hal-version-f5122. Definitely a warning to ignore and the update went smoothly. If this is simply a translation issue giving the wrong impression, it would be good to correct it.
Those messages to revert or remove don’t make much sense anymore, since the updater removes what it wants, anyway. For example, on every single update I am “advised” to remove the OBEX Filter Off package, which I obviously ignore, but it always gets uninstalled by the updater, anyway, and I have to reinstall it
Last weekend I finally upgraded my XA2 to 4.5.0.21.
All went well, except the device went into a high battery usage for the next 2 reboot cycles.
The cause was apparently lipstick, which was constantly taking ~20% of CPU.
I returned home after the working day with battery under 20% (from full charge).
I then plugged the phone to the charger and at least when I chacked few hours later after the battery was full again the CPU usage was finally down to the usual levels.
Maybe the increased CPU usage and battery drain was caused by the system running migration scripts after the update?
Running migration scripts for more than 24h (and more than one full battery charge) for upgrading from the previous 4.5.0 level feels a little bit too much in my opinion if the release was properly tested, but maybe it was that, who knows.
