[Release notes] Finlayson 5.2.0.16 - Jolla Phone only

I’ve seen this self-heal before, too, when it has occurred in rare cases. Can’t recall timeframes anymore, but this time I’ve been giving it almost 48h already.. unclear how it might self-heal or is there anything I can do

What’s the update service DNS name, maybe helps diagnose network issues?

Ouch! :open_mouth:
I probably would have restarted the phone a couple of times already at this point hoping for a different result, but it sounds like it wouldn’t have made a difference here.

Maybe @Keto has an idea how to debug this properly…

on jp2 the problem with Apple DAC limited volume is back - now it can not be fixed like on 5.1 with simple
pactl set-sink-volume alsa_output.usb-Apple__Inc._USB-C_to_3.5mm_Headphone_Jack_Adapter_DWH504202DRL1MQAF-00.analog-stereo 100%

on jp2026 it looks like notification LED can not be configured for PatternDeviceOn?
the reason is that in dark night you can simply locate device but as it is dimmed it is not disturbing i had it on jp1

 PatternDeviceOn=254;0;0;0;0;051100

tried change priority,ScreenOn, and even fullcolor but none works.

Yeah, reboot fixed it.

Download proceeded instantly.

:face_with_spiral_eyes: not great for confidence.

Thank you for the update. We understand the team is very busy. I voted for the first option (no problems with updating).

I have issues with certain apps in the launching screen:Forum viewer and NedNieuws. When switching between these two I only get the first one.

When video calling with Threema Libre I still can’t activate that camera toggle in the right corner above. (Have given access in the android app settings.)

See second known issue in the first post.

I had already seen that.

I’m pretty sure that’s your issue - and it seems you had not correlated the two.

Yes, it’s my little issue, because it happens on my Jolla2. Having opened Forum Viewer, swiping it up to launching screen, then opening NedNieuws, I get Forum Viewer again. The same happens when I open NedNieuws first: then this app stays and Forum Viewer doesn’t appear. The second opened app can only be removed by the pulley menu. Odd, never had this before, but only a minor problem. Never mind.

It is impossible to tell if you are agreeing disagreeing or otherwise to me pointing out that “your issue” is the second known issue in the first post.
This whole release is only for the Jolla 2 so far, so not sure what you mean that info adds.

Would be still nice if someone from Jolla could give some tips how to help them debug this issue if someone runs into in the future.

NedNieuws maintainer here. Looking at the J2 bug report Attah is pointing to, I am pretty sure that is indeed the issue. Both Forum Viewer and NedNieuws are pure qml apps.
Perhaps a temporary workaround can be made, but I hope Jolla will address this on short notice so it won’t be needed.
And expecting to receive my J2 from batch 1 soon, so I can do testing myself

I feel like my phone has been getting hotter than before during charging, but could just be me imagining things

The native browser does indeed feel more fluid. It is still not perfect but much better than before.

There is still one odd thing on my J2, before and after the update. When I am done charging to 90% (limit has been respected recently) the phone does not appear to recognize that the cable has been removed (pretty annoying blinking light when screen is turned off, or constant light as if the phone were still charging, which it is not)

Thank you Jolla, for keeping up improvement work during the vacation period! I voted “Serious trouble” because I first thought I had bricked the phone :frowning:, but eventually I managed to install the update  .

Could download just fine. Reboot to update stalled at blank screen, Jolla and Sailfish logos didn’t show. Eventually the LED turned red and phone shut off. I then tried powering on multiple times with the same result before giving up, thinking I’d have to reflash.

Later in the evening I had the idea to power on while holding Vol+, which made the phone boot (showing logos). Otherwise, the screen was blank (with a faint glow, which I didn’t notice earlier in the day but maybe this was due of stronger ambient light).

After a while, there was a brief flash showing the security code entry. I tapped the power key, screen lit up and I could enter the code. Reboot continued, update ran to completion and phone rebooted with the same behaviour.

Again, tapping the power key brought up the security code entry and phone booted into 5.2.0.16.

I have since tried rebooting a couple of times, and the phone now seems to behave.

Can you monitor the heat using the AIDA64 app from Jolla Store?
Also are you using a charger with USB-C to USB-C or a USB-A to USB-C?

GREAT Job Jolla :+1:

Second update in less than 10 days

I used the Backup from the C2, restored on 5.2.0.16. The (generic) mail account that has been restored and receives mails, but sending is not possible. Seems like i need to recreate the account to gain full function back. Someon else observes that or shell i collect some logs before i recreate the account?

I have the same issue. No problem in receiving mails, but I had to recreate my account to be able to send mails.
