I’m a retired IT manager, fed up with the unprofessional marketing of EU technology compared with the Wall-Street gang! I both a Jolla Phone to break free. Sure enough, it does not work!! And I wrote why here: Moving to SailfishOS
Please wake up!! We need you!!
what means IT ?
is not Qt Group a much larger company than Jolla?
I should have written: IT-manager (information technology)
Thanks for the information about the size difference.
Grabs popcorn
This will be a pointless thread. Mostly because you are “preaching to the choir” here
Another question is: What SFOS parts are Jolla-proprietary, how to replace with full FOSS parts and get rid from depending on Jolla’s strange decisions? To be honest, I’m also sick of feeling fooled by Jolla, broken promises, waiting for Godot, and all this well known conditions.
I’m absolutely not happy to write this, but meanwhile i come to conclusion it would maybe be better to fork the project and make a full FOSS FreefishOS that looks similar and works as good as every other Linux distro. What do you think about this? Isn’t it about time after so many years?
edit: This also would make possible to update the kernel and the QT to up to date version, that Jolla refuses to do.
edit: BTW merging with QT is imho not senseful way, as QT is an universal programming environment and is not mobile phone specific.
You’re fed up with unprofessional marketing?, so you thought you would come here and link an unprofessional webpage littered with spelling mistakes?, while asking a question with grammatical errors/spelling mistakes…why bother?
“The USA wants to disconnect from the wold”. I wish it would and I think you mean “world”, as I assume it was you who made this awful looking webpage?, lol, unprofessional.
These are the questions I am fed up with reading, they barely make sense.
I’ve marked this as spam, the more I look at it, the worse it gets and the OP opens with “unprofessional marketing”. If it smells like spam, it probably is.
Thanks for correcting my misspelling. Human languages are not my thing, really. It is no spam! I have been around in information technology for 40 years now and have to witness the unprofessional tribal fighting outside the Wall-Street $ power, always loosing in the end.
I think you are just a troll. Your postings are embarassing for someone who claims to be 40 years in the buisness.
“Human languages are not your thing” - what a bizarre statement, speaks like a chat bot.
Marked as spam, please retire fully and don’t come back here.
What? I in my early days received an email from Apple that I was one of the 20 most emailed Dutch people. We had one of the first business connections to the Internet. I started as a hobby with minux (before Linux) and so on, and so on.
Or is in your eyes every old man a troll?
Wikipedia says, QT Project was founded by Nokia in 2011
and is now QT Group
So why not, I consider this as a good idea and everything would stay finnish.
You think QT is not aware of SailfishOS?, they must be, surely. In which case, this guy should go post on QT forum instead of here, we know that nobody at Jolla management reads ANYTHING on this forum. Jolla are happy keeping their shit to themselves and do what they want. I would not blame QT for NOT being interested in Jolla and why would they?
Personally, I’m growing really weary of this Sailfish thing, it’s going nowhere, in slow motion.
Yes @Edz , and therefore I wrote post #5.
Here you go: nemomobile.net
Hoi @everardo, welcome! It seems like you mean well and yes SailfishOS or jolla likely need some sort of support to keep the boat floating.
Play with it but do not make your only retirement hobby, maybe go fishing or sailing instead of sailfishing-only. And you might well find yourself in a situation where something forces you to an iPhone or Android.
Maybe pick an “xperia 10 V” and ditch that c2.
Thanks @pherjung but sooo many x-es at the working feature list of both phones!
We at least should try to get Sailfish growing, so there will exist a valid alternative for Andoid/iOS. I really dream of a Linux-based GSM phone platform. If the world stays on Android/iOS and QT will remain proprietary, I see no other option then quitting GSM phones altogether in the end. Growing Salfish is not a technical matter, it is a money-flow matter.
Even if Qt was interested, not sure how they would feel about a platform that is sitting on a 6 years EOL version which is 5.6.3. And looking at Mer Wiki one can probably declare that dead.
I switched to GrapheneOS a year ago, after feeling various symptoms. Looking into details almost makes we wonder how it still kind a works.
There could be a non-profit Sailfish OS trust which would oversee the development of the free parts of SFOS. It could apply for grants from EU and other institutions. It would share the responsibility with Jollyboys and maybe take care of some future standardisations.
figures for Qt Group (2023) source Wikipedia
employee 775, operating income 47.3 M€, profit 35.5 M€
income 61000 €/head
figures for Jolla (2017) source Wikipedia.fr
employee 31, turnover 2.2 M€, profit -6.9 M€ (minus means a negative profit = loss)
money burnt 9.1 M€, 294000 €/head
that supposes some high wages for the employee?
2.2 M€ / 50 € also means 44000 licenses sold, amazing is not it?
