Maybe a dumb question:
Why do u install Pure Maps (and OSM Server) through Chum? Isnt the jolla store version fine?
Although do u need the OSM Scout App or the OSM Scout Server Plugin: something app only?
Because
-
only the version published via Chum contains all features (for example offline maps and voice navigation via TTS as told also in the description in Jolla store) and
-
rinigus (the developer) recommends that wayā¦
Thanks! I havent seen any recommendation from the author nor that offline maps would only work on chum so that really helps! Sorry again for my stupid question
Edit: is there a difference in using the chum/openrepo version of osm scout then too for how pure maps works? (Compared to jolla store)
@rinigus: Well, I guess, Ive found something at least āinterestingā when following your hint, that probablly might get me to a solution for my troubles.
I did this, because voice navigation couldn`t be activated in PM, telling me about a missing TTS module. But even after sucessfully (re-)installing PicoTTS via chum the message in settings ā test⦠remains āNo engine available for selected languageā (in english, even PM normaly is in german language as set in Jolla device settings).
When running ssu lr on the terminal, it tells me the following:
[ā¦]Enabled repositories (user):
- sailfishos-chum ⦠Index of /obs/sailfishos:/chum/5.0.0.67_armv7hl
There`s obviousely a discrepancy between the two entries. While store entry points to version 5.1.0.11 (which is correct and the same as the entries under āEnabled repositories (global)ā), saifishos-chum seems to point to 5.0.0.67 (which isn`t correct yet imho).
So, problem source recognised? How to solve this now?
Thanks and kind regards,
BGK
PS: I found another potential problem source: the first line of āssu lrā`s output starts with
WARNING: ssu.ini does not seem to be writable. Setting values might not work.
I never changed any file rights manually. How to get that solved?
Please start with simple things, so firstly make sure you have not pinned this specific version in Chum GUIās Settings > Advanced settings.
Thanks for that hint, seems I defined a version override (for 5.0.0.67) long time ago⦠(didn`t even remember that advanced settings)⦠![]()
Yippieh, after removing the version override in Chum, I finally could re-install (i.e. remove and install again) PM, OSMSS and PicoTTS without any problems. ![]()
A big thanx to all who helped out by poking me back on track (literally)!!! ![]()
@rinigus: Problem solved. I wish, that one could be solved, too (bike season again) that easy (as some bluetooth components changed in latest SFOS version) - hope dies lastā¦
This is why we ask questions - we mostly get great answers ![]()
Hmm, I used Sailfish 4.x on my Xperia 10iii up through last autumn, living both France, other European countries on vacations, and in visiting the USA. Switched to Fairphone 4 with /e/ OS as I had some unsolvable call quality issues on the Xperia, but at the time VoLTE wasnāt supported by Sailfish on the FP4 (now it is, so Iām hoping to back up all my data and switch back to Sailfish soon!)
Anyhow, Pure Maps had a bit of a configuration and learning curve for me, but once I got it working it was brilliant for satnavāvoice-guidance while driving the car, biking around Paris, or walking.
You should give Pure Maps another look. IIRC you do also need Open Scout or some other back-end app on Sailfish to make it all workāI would use that secondary app to download and manage the offline maps.
Someone else could perhaps provide you a link to a forum post that explains how to set up Pure Maps.
I recently had to switch from an XA2 to an XA2 Ultra.
Unfortunately, Pure Maps refuses to work properly for me there.
It simply fails to pick up the current position.
A fix is āāavailableāat least according to GPSInfo and Hello GPS. OSM Scout, Maep, and OpenStreetMap all show the current location.
SFOS is on version 5.1.0.11, and Pure Maps was installed from Chum (version 3.5.1-1.15.2.bso). Do I need to install anything else?
Itās strange; it always worked fine on the Xperia X and the XA2 before this.
Jolla phone and 5.2.0.17, I downloaded the latest version from Chum (3.5.1). Everything else seemed to work but for navigation Pure maps didnāt find route. Either in maps from Here or in the default option. With Here maps the map itself seemed to work and render correctly. OSM scout installed.
Deleted that and installed latest version from Jolla store (3.4.2). With this the default map works with the routing, but Here maps show only white blank. This is probably due the support for HERE v3 API maps introduced in version 3.5.0. In 3.5.1 there was some ā[sfos] Workaround for SFOS 5.1ā. Donāt know what that actually means. Releases Ā· rinigus/pure-maps Ā· GitHub
@rinigus what is currently best way to install Pure maps for Jolla phone (or any with SFOS version 5.2)? Would love to use Here maps with working routing. Sandboxed app wouldnāt hurt either so can we hope to see newer release in Harbour also at one point? ![]()
PS. thank you for this stunning app <3
There seems to be some issue with the Chum version when it comes to fidning routes. If you trigger navigation from the search result menu (Navigate To/From), it seems to work. But navigate to button on the main map UI always seems to produce a routing failed, until you at least route once with the search result menu itemā¦
Hmm, I thought I tried that also, but canāt be sure now
I will probably try to live with the 3.4.2 for now or at least until I hear from rinigus what is currently best plan
Suggestion fir improvement. Generally I find the text on the map toi small. Is there a way to add text size inti settings menue ! Also thank you for great job.
OSM Scout Server is the one you need.
I have stumbled recently on the same bug, will work on it. I presume it is when selecting a point on a map and then selecting to route to it. For some reason, it doesnāt work most of the time after a new Pure Maps start on SFOS. As a workaround, go to routing dialog box and enter address there. It should route and usually after that routing would work with a map selection again. Until a restart. Will try to address it before the next release.
Very simple: click on Map selector icon displayed on the top right over the maps. This will open a map type selection dialog and on the bottom will allow you to scale map. You may have to repeat it for different types allowing you to tune scale for different situations (looking while browsing vs driving)
ā¦I canāt believe I canāt read⦠How stupid mistake, thank you for pointing it out! I think the Jolla store version doesnāt actually need it then?
Aaand now as I downloaded the osm scout server I got the pure maps navigation to work! Thank you <3 will use the chum version for now for Here API, but hope to return for Harbour one when newer version lands
Pure maps have completely replaced android map apps
Guess how I found outā¦
You are not allone. You will need OSMScout Server anyway. The good thing is OSMScout is also an excellent app for navigation. You might enjoy to have both of them.
