It seems a little bit like it won’t be possible any more (don’t know if it ever was?) get Here API key without payment information. Old platform is shutting down.
And even if their new portal offer button “Do it later” in reality it doesn’t seem to allow skipping entering payment information
I used to use it but it has been broken for me for ~1 year or so, where it just shows a white blank page and doesn’t load the map tiles. I have actually reported this bug here but it has not been fixed yet (at least to my knowledge?) so I guess it’s really hard to catch
For me, Here online profile works fine in Puremaps. I had to provide credit card details in my Here profile some months ago, but never had to pay anyting.
Also thought about putting down payment info, but I don’t want to keep looking if I am going to exceed that limit. I would much more prefer it to just stop working rather than charge money without me noticing
I agree you. One day, I picked up my mother from the hospital, and in the parking lot there were only some Parkman advertisements saying to pay with these. You have to enter your bank card number into these apps for them to work. I picked up my mom quickly, and at least so far, I haven’t received a fine at home.
Jolla 1 had Maps plus Here satnav that worked out of the box.
After that I was never able to use a satnav on a Sailfish device again.
On the Volla that I use outside (because video calling with Threema does not work in Sailfish) I tried OSMscout. Not my cup of tea.
When Jolla2 will be launched, a reiliable Maps/satnav will be appreciated. Here again? Or the good working Magic Earth?
Last Pure Maps version supports new HERE API. It is up to HERE to define their conditions and customers of HERE to agree with them. To my knowledge, HERE asks for card data in front, to be able to charge you if you go over free limit. It was their choice to do it that way. Some providers stop service if there are no funds.
But it is a service, Pure Maps just allows you to use it. It is up to you whether to accept conditions or not. I find that it is fair to pay for the mapping service, but its my choice, maybe not yours. As a compromise on my side, I gave access to that payment info. Not that I have gone over the limit so far.
For me it works if you start to type the name of the street and it is available in the suggestions to stop typing that but simply write the housenumber. It will be with that number in the suggestions then.
This is reasonable as long as the payments are reasonable too.
So I checked:
It is very detailed, but as far as I checked each point (except fuel prices) has free monthly transactions and is priced “per 1000” additional requests. E.g. tiles cost €0.066 for each additional 1000 beyond 30 000.
However, it should be said that a fairly basic requirement like search requests will cost €2.20/month if you go beyond 5000 requests, and a few other services too.
OTOH - 5000 free searches per month? That’s 166 searches per day. I don’t think any single user will ever exceed that.
@rinigus, is 1 search 1 request? Does Pure Maps even use some of the other similarly priced services?
We are talking about what Here Maps calls “javascript developer API key” or some such, right?
