[POLL] Will you buy the next gen Jolla phone?

I entusiastically bought xperia 10III dreaming a new way to use a smartfone (hoping a new tech love)

but i see to mutch stufs are not integrated, bugged or not working at all

a lot of users they have 2 phone (1 for android, 1 for sailfish) no way.

i love the principle, i llove the idea, but it’s not for me.

App Support is the reason I switched to sailfish

Apo Supoort status is the reason I’ll go back

Sorry to hear that it wasn’t for you. To understand better, what were the biggest quirks in AAS that makes you go back android/ios? Everyone can see that there is still work to be done but hopefully things keep going to right direction

some android apps not running at all (example it.pagopa.io.app - it sais “device is not compatible”)

sensors are not accessible in App Support, apps that can authenticate with fingerprint, on sfoss can not

autifill (i use proton as password manager) not integrate

i can’t get a working “spam call block”

difficult to find a weather forecast app finding my location

maps, not reliable for driving

TTS, supoorted ones speeching robotic

screen/font size not sync between sfoss and android (in telegram need to go landscape then portrait to view long message content)

overall some are small problems (noise), some are real issues/missing integration (for a system about 10yo should be addressed at last)

moreover there are 3 app stores, but each is good just for a couple of apps (the most are archived, test, unmaintained, problematic to install)

I am not a content creator, i am not mutch digital addicted… I expect to have user-experience closed to Android, it’s just 1 step over dumbphone instread

I hope my message will not sound rude, aggressive or accusative, I am just disappointed

I think the main selling point are:

  • linux-based hackable phone. You can inspect the internals and change things. Say, I wasn’t happy with the included backup feature, I scripted mine in bash in a couple of hours, it synchronises to my main (linux) computer with cron and rsync, without the need for a lengthy learning of how to write GUI, or deep knowledge of SailfishOS itself.
  • data privacy. It will not send data to Google and others (unless you install Android apps).

I’m here because Android is anti-privacy and not much hackable. I’m ready to accept limitations in Android emulation. Maybe your trade-off is different.

Echo is unbearable again. Getting comments about it. My story with Sailfish goes up and down for years. I hope the next Jolla functions well. If not, I will make my conclusion.

Why don’t you use a headset?

SailfishOS is still a tinker device and doesn’t fit for main stream market. Therefore I would buy it.

But shouldn’t it be the final goal to hit the mainstream market?

Yeah nice idea SFOS smartphone with Android the other half, with communication between both sides. So you could choose which OS you use for which purpose. Genius!

What abouth this? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

And, why not, a not too distant tomorrow, a Risc-V SOC…:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Yes, it should. I think a C2 will suit tinkerers and hopefully a Jolla2 will be able to attract new customers.
